Live to 150

This is non mustang related, but it was something i thought was interesting, curious as to what other peoples thoughts would be on this subject.

So, last night i was watching a show on the Discovery Science Channel, called "visions of the future" hosted by Dr Michio Kaku who is a theoretical physicist and author.

this episode was on "biotech" about how advances in technology could affect us all.

apparently they have already doubled the lifespan of many animals, and are pretty confidant they can do this to people as well, the only remaining sumblingblock is how to keep the brain fresh during an extended lifespan

here is the interesting part, the scientists who are activly working on lifespan extention through genetic manipulation are pretty confidant that a lifespan of 150 years is very likely, and they have a pool going on the age of the first person who will hit the 150 year mark. most of these scientists believe this person is already alive and likely to be in his/her mid 50's.

for all of us under 50 years old, this holds an interesting idea that we may easily live past double our lifespan, and not spend the last 80 years as an old geezer, but the aging process will be proportional to the extended age. Meaning that at 70 years old, you will be be the physical equivelant of a 35 year old, or younger

it would be interesting to see how the knowledge of a lifespan between 140-170 years would change our perspective on life.

im 31. ive been doing telecom for 11 years now, i could do another 30 years of this, retire, take 20-30 years off, then start on a new career with a full 60-70 years ahead of me, and maybe become a doctor or something and have more than enough time to achieve that goal and spend 30-40 years as a doctor, and still be able to retire on a final retirement for 20-30 years.

there is a lot of shit you could accomplish in 150 years.

Couldn't care less and would never want to live that long.. Honestly, about 75 years would do it for me.

i hope you don't mean that(about you wanna die at 75). you never know, you could have grandkids that will want their grandpa around forever.

I agree with the other guy. 70-80 years... hell 85 tops will be great for me. I want to live long enough to raise my son and know I put him on the right path in life. Other than that... Life is hell.... im only 32 and im already tired of the rat race and day to day life. For me it would only prolong my misery! LOL

JackThe Ripper 08-27-2008 09:12 PM

hell i would do it...

i would continue doing what i do for another 20-30 years then retire for 10-15 years, then maybe try a new career or something...

they think there is an inherit limit on the extention of life... kind of like you can only stretch a rubber band so far, but they seem confidant they can hit around 150 years or so.

hell, there was a woman who lived to be 122.

as long as i dont just get old at 70, and remain old and decrepid and remain so for the next 70 years.

lol...

either way, it will be interesting to see what happens with this over the next 5-10 years.

Yep, 75-80 years would be more than enough for me. I was actually just talking about this today with a friend and we both agreed (shook hands on it actually) that if we got old and useless then we would shoot each other at the same time.. lol I'm sure that by that time there will be a pill you can take to go to sleep and never wake up again, but still..

I say all of this now, but we'll see what happens when I get there.

Stephen4036 08-27-2008 09:20 PM

85 tops, if im in immaculate shape maybe 90

I don't think anyone would want say how long they would like to live, unless your in enough pain to end your life. I couldn't see living to be 150 as feasable though. Geez at 48 years old I'm already showing the signs of getting old. Eyesight went from 20/20 to can't see shit without my new glasses in 4 years. Prescription changes every year now. Plus I have to leave myself a post it note to take out the trash on fridays, every week I have to do this.. LoL.

Although there are good things too, I am much more compassionate about animals, other than the family pet. I feel sorry for the dead possum in the road. But I also have way less tolerance for the human race. Stupid people piss me off more easily now than when I was younger. I can't stand going shopping anymore because of all the idiots you run into.

But I could deal with it over being dead. Being dead is the ultimate thing we don;t want to happen, even at 80+ years old, IMHO. :smokin:

I think that is a very cool concept. I'd love to live 150 years. Hell, I'd be immortal if I could. The way I think about it is, I think of my great grandmother. She was born in 1895, saw the first mass production of automobiles, the Wright brothers flight, the invention of the television, WWI, WWII, The Great Depression, the invention of space shuttles, Vietnam, 'man walk on the moon', and several other milestones of the human race before she died in 1985, two weeks before I was born.

I'd love to see things like that. As of right now, we are. I think of the things I could see in 125 years and it just makes me wonder. But, I don't want to wonder, I want to know.
