Background: I'm a sysadmin...I design/build/repair/maintain the computers and networks that make websites work. I am extremely good at my job and anyone that's worked with me knows that it's usually best to take my advice on matters that deal with my job.

Recent: The company I've been with for the past couple months has their heads completely up their ass and has been making my life miserable with their non-stop idiocy and internal politics motivated decision making. I told them what they needed to do to keep their website and company online without data loss (a serious current risk that could wipe the company out) and they decided that I don't know my place because I told them they needed to invest in their infrastructure or they could be out of business in a few weeks (BTW... my job description includes recommending courses of action for all discovered problems). So, they've given me 30 days to transition myself out. Cool! Now to make matters insulting, they're implementing the changes I told them they needed to despite firing me for making those change suggestions (including hiring more QA people). As near as I can tell they've broken some California labor laws and I'm consulting an attorney about it now. Don't poke the badger with a spoon...he bites. I be he.

Current: Long story short, I've been looking for a job since Monday. Saturday (today) <SECRET... one of the worlds largest Porn companies... they do magazines, web sites, movies, etc... on the same playing field as Playboy but not affiliated with PB> called me with a verbal offer (hinged on some additional paperwork). I interviewed yesterday which included a HARD ASS TEST which required total recall of everything I've done professionally in the past 12 years and then 2 really super technical personal interviews and it looks like I did well.

I'm waiting for the written offer which is due Monday, then I'm just going to walk into some offices and tell them: <the best reply from one of you>.

Your job: What could I possibly say to drive home the "you're totally fucked because you pissed in my cheerios and you're going to have a bad year for your asshattedness". The best reply will be at least paraphrased and used... this is your chance to tell off my bosses. Do your best to be really creative.

As tempting as it may be, I would not burn any bridges. I have known a few folks who wish they could now come back to work for us and they can't because of the way they left. People do change. The asshats you work for now won't be there forever and you never know what you might be going to either.

If it were me, I would thank them for the employment and just move on.

You never know who the new company may hire, it very well could be the asshat you told off, and they may put him in charge of you.

in the technical world, it is a very small small world.

i can damn near garauntee you will be either working with, over, or under somebody from your previous job within the next 20 years.

and you never know how that may end up boning you in the end.

damn it ... you guys and your practical, useful, sage advice. You're not a damned bit of fun but you're all 100% right. I'll be nice and give em a solid week notice at minimum and be nice about it. You know what a smartass I am so this whole being nice thing is a little alien to me.

And yeah... I'll make sure and make with the free gatorades. No pussin' out when it comes to free pr0nz. Pardon the pun. (if the gatorade comment doesn't make sense to you, then move back into your mom's basement and watch Clerks non-stop until it does).

lol, my boss and I had the talk about tech. workers (as I work in the tech field). generally, we think we're a little smarter than the rest of folks (but we are!) and it can cause problems. your original post illustrates it perfectly. i agree with everyone and that you shouldn't burn any bridges, do your final course of action as they ask you to with as little friction as possible and go on your merry way.

I know we can be a little rough around the edges sometimes in the workplace but if they're not going to listen to you when you're doing your job, it's really their own fault. it sounds like you could potentially have a case against them as well depending on california's labor laws.

with a potential offer in the bag, its time to move on and kick some ass in the porn world. can't wait to hear some good stories :)

there's already 5-6 really good long lasting brodies in their lot from my weekend visits to the office. nothing like a 3rd gear burnout to leave the rubber on the tarmac.

well they made the money offer. Damn Pr0n pays well! I'm definitely going to take it. it's 10 grand more than I make now in base pay (which is already a lot) plus quarterly bonuses and they're going to IPO this year so my options might actually be worth something and the benefits are slightly better. Downside if you can call it that is that it's a 30 mile commute, upside is it's a 30 mile commute, driving MY car.

This could just be the shot I've been waiting for to be able to buy a house around here. Timing is perfect. I'm hoping to catch the tail end of the mortgage/fuel/food price induced stagflation. House prices always tank in shitty economies. BTW.. those that thought the gold boom was over may want to consider the global repercussions of higher interest/oil/grain prices all happening at the same time.

sweet deal man! seeing this thread reminds me that i have about 9 months before i put out my resumes to job seeker firms, mostly military ones. i only have 20 months left in the military and im telling you its going to be hard to walk away from a E-5 base pay...all the BS doesnt make it worth staying.
