Whats the best aftermarket shifter??
 

I was wondering... I really don't like the factory shifter... So I thought I'd change it.... Problem is there are so many different makes and models of shifter for our cars, It's really hard to decide....

Oh yeah one more thing.... How hard are they to install...

From what I have seen/read they aren't to hard to install. Maybe 1hr at most. I have never installed one myself since I haven't changed out my stock shifter. As far as the best, you will hear different opinions. I have heard good things about just about all of them really. I am going with a Tri-ax because I know Steeda makes good quality parts.

I have the Tri-Ax. It is awesome. Takes about 1 hr to install with about only two cuss words. Make sure you have a good ratchet set with extenders and a swivel helps too. You need some silicon sealant.

Buy the one here at MT for about $120. It is EXACTLY the same as the Steeda Tri-Ax.

If you decide to get a Tri-ax, buy the Mustangtuning shifter. Its the same unit.

I have had the Mustang Tuning Shifter installed for several weeks and it is awesome! With this shifter you cant miss third!!

Chris gave me a sweet deal on the TriAX, so I picked it up. I love this thing man, its amazing. I need to get back in there and put it on the low position, right now its on the high one and its great.

I did have a Tri-Ax in mine. I changed it to the Pro5.0. I must say, I like the Pro5.0 MUCH better. My .02

I got a good deal on the Steeda Tri-Ax so i picked it up and have had no regrets. I have seen both shifters in front of me and can tell you that there is verry little difference between them. But, you have to remember that with the MT shifter you have to buy a handle ($30) for it, where as the Steeda come with one. If you dont mind spending an extra $30 I say get the Steeda Tri-Ax. As for the installation, it is simple, they give you instructions on how to do it. All that is requires is a socket set and silicone sealant. I have installed two Steeda shifters so far and it took just under an hour for each.

I have had both the tri-ax and curently the pro 5.0, I would say the pro 5.0 it a cut above the tri-ax, just due to the fact that the 5.0 has a steel ring and handle as opposed to the aluminum,. I would say get the mustang tuning one, fro the price it's the best deal on the web.

as far as installation, my ten year old could do it in about an hour. It's really simple, your biggest problem will be seperating the old one from the tranny, un bolt it, and yank the **** out of it, MAKE SURE you re use the little plastic insert that goes on the shifter acuator ball, if not it will shift like a sloppy mess.

I had a pro 5.0 in my 94 GT I loved it but I can't give you an opinion on the TRI-AX I've heard good things though

what is the build date on your car? later 01 cars have the 3650 and early 01s have the t45

Are we talking auto shifters or manual shifters? My factory shifter for my 5 spd manual does pretty good so far.. I would like to get a T handle knob maybe for nostalgia purposes. I had a hurst shifter for my old Z-28. That thing was a sloppy monster to speed shift. LOL!

I'll add my opinion but from what I hear and read Tri Ax is the best, and somewhere I saw quoted it being the fastest short throw shifter? I dunno but it looks quality :)

never used the Pro 5.0, I have used the Tri-Ax and I love it

MGW has a short throw shifter. I have heard that they make quality stuff. Can't go wrong with Tri-ax though.

Steeda Triax is a great product. I haven't heard anything horrible about any of the shifters, but I know a Steeda part will be decent in price and quality. I love mine.

MGW makes some very high quality stuff, without a doubt.

I've not used an aftermarket shifter and you'll find out that, like cat back exhausts, people like the shifter depending on their taste and the way they drive/shift. From the members that have had them, the 5.0 and Steeda are the most popular and both are quality products. 5.0 has gotten the most positive feedback I've heard from in our club. One person has had the 5.0, Steeda, and Hurst and found the 5.0 was his favorite.
