$57 damn thats expensive. I filled up my stang just the other day and it only cost me $34 and I was at a quater of a tank. Then again I fill up with 87 octane. My gas normally lasts me about a week back at home and about a month up here at college.

HokieStang00 05-13-2008 01:26 PM

We just hit 4.00$ a gallon in Michigan. So I'm guessing I'd be just above 50$ to fill up. No more random road trips.

No joke, I used to love to take random trips, just go to the lake randomly, go floating, go any where but where I am now. But no more... just sit in this stupid town and do nothing. Heck I don't even want to take my car to the track now, its a long drive then I have to do a 1/4 mile, too much gas.

jjtgiants 05-13-2008 03:53 PM

well, that's one of the reasons why I got rid of my mach. Didn't want to fill it up ever 3 days with premium fuel. Fuel prices are hitting everyone pretty hard....including the price of food. Not sure if any of you have been grocery shopping lately, but it seems like everything has gone up in price...except for strawberries, you can still get those pretty cheap in Cali.

I've also noticed A LOT more people taking BART....Bay Area Rapid Transit *(it's like the SF Bay Area's version of the subway system)

It's going to get a lot worse people!

Dream 05-13-2008 06:38 PM

lol i filled up from almost empty. took 49L in a 52L tank.....cost me 72 bucks!

V6_Mustang_Power 05-13-2008 06:41 PM

it just hit 4 dollars here

3.8for the win 05-13-2008 06:46 PM

its about 370 hear some places have it for 367.

PColav6 05-13-2008 06:47 PM

3.69

it was 3.49 last week .

doobie 05-13-2008 06:57 PM

last thursday when i filled my car (didnt do any driving over the weekend, been trying not to) it was 52$ for 87 for pretty much a full tank.

diesel has been averaging about $4.70-4.90/gal here for quite a while so i can see where the increase in food prices is coming from, no want :(
you'll see me soon on the list of members who sold their cars, probably in the next month.

why sell your car and then start paying for another one? even if you do get a car with 10times better gas mileage your not going to be saving anymore money. In fact you may be losing some. Just do the math theres no way your going to break even unless you sell the stang and buy a cheap honda that gets 35mpg and you wont have to owe anything on....... but face it you can get much for 9k-12k.

well this car isn't paid off so i will have a car payment *regardless*. so i want something that is cheaper on gas and something that will also lower my insurance rate.

WaterDR 05-13-2008 10:02 PM

This crap is getting crazy and I can hardly believe it. I am commuting 100 miles a day right now until Mid June and that does not include my wife's driving. I am paying for about 4 fill-ups per week at this rate. F- me!

PureStang 05-13-2008 10:12 PM

one of the reasons im considering trading the mustang and the sable for a lil honda civic si or golf gti.

then again, i just may buy a coilover kit from MM and keep paying the outrageous gas prices....

there will be a time when the govt will have to get involved with this ordeal.

rebelyell 05-14-2008 12:11 AM

I'm so lucky, because my job is only 4 miles from my house. $3.90 here for mid grade gas. And I'm using my 5th gear way more than I used to. I'm actually getting better gas mileage because I've changed my driving habits. I used to drive the extra miles to go home for lunch breaks. Now I just stay at work, unless I need to get away from the place or 30 minutes. I have yet to lay any serious blck marks since I got new tires last year, ( that's another story on prices.LOL), so I can put 20 bucks in my tank and last for a week. If I can keep my foot out of it. Hard to do most of time.

spike_africa 05-14-2008 05:41 AM

This is why im glad i got my motorcycle for my graduation present.

doobie 05-14-2008 05:55 AM

WaterDR-

yeah, my commute is ~60mi/day, not as bad as yours, but some days I also go to school so it adds to that. I end up getting gas every 3-4 days.

OUCH. This is getting flat out rediculous. I remember when i started driving gas was 87 cents a gallon. Where'd those days go?

doobie 05-14-2008 07:56 AM

well on the way to work today, gas was 4.18...

Black Sunshine 05-14-2008 08:30 AM

I work about 12 miles from home, and I fill up every Thursday when I hit 1/4 of a tank. It normally costs me between $35-$45 to fill up from around 1/4. I drive my '93 4 cylinder on the weekend. All the places I eat for lunch are within walking distance of the office. When I have to run company errands, they reimburse me .50 a mile.

The gas this morning at the place I usually get it from was $3.75 a gallon. Although, I have seen it over $4.00 at other places.

I am parking my GT if gas gets over $4.00 at the place I always stop at. Thank (insert diety here) I decided not to sell my 2.3 liter. :)

i sure hope so cause it's getting pretty bad. Then again if I saw my bank account rising everytime gas prices went up I'm not sure I'd do anything about it either.

It just pisses me off the Govt has no problem jumping on things like steriods in baseball, but sit on their asses when people can't even afford to drive to work anymore.

yep do that, no sale!!

Gas out here is like $3.76 and I am doing my best to avoid filling up!

Leonide 05-14-2008 07:07 PM

gas out here in the High Desert is as high as 4.14+ at the 76 gas station in Barstow. same story for Shell + Mobil. i see it as low as 3.85 for regular unleaded. i feel glad i got a sixer. (and a V6 Mazda back at home! :D )

I got my honda for $1,100. 84 Civic. I had to do some work to keep her running but she is pretty reliable now.

I used to feel kinda goofy driving the little thing, there are a lot of well off people in the area, and i used to see some pretty smug stuck up looks when i drove that ugly little honda. Now people are starting to ask me how its fuel economy is, i tell them i only drive my mustang around the local area and do all my commuting with the honda and i can tell they are gonna go home and look for a beater on craigslist and start entertaiing the idea.

the mustang hardly ever goes out anymore, i only drive it in town around the neighborhood when i run some errands, i dont even bother wasting the gas to use it to commute anymore.

JackThe Ripper 05-14-2008 07:50 PM

something to think about...

The fact is there is a finite amount of oil, it just doesent generate nearly as fast as we use it.

Right now this is one of the biggest things on the minds of the american government, and that IS the reason we are out there.

We go out there, help out one group of people to get in better with oil suppliers, then eventually we want to buy oil from somone else so we have to change our allies etc. And YES, we do have the alaska reserves, but that is being looked at as a backup supply, why dip into that untill absolutly needed?

i mean seriously, we would not be out there if it wasnt for oil. Everyone knows that. The government doesent like to admit it because a lot of people dont like to hear it, but it really isnt about a few fat cats getting rich, it is about protecting the economy because a sudden 2-3 dollar per gallon hike would ve devestating to the economy, we can learn to adapt with smaller gradual changes.

Look at the other major countries out there, they are all still paying a lot more than we are. We got discounts for a while but it is getting harder to get those discounts cause our popularity is lessening. The government knows that people will eventually have to start paying more gas.

I figure the govt is actually encouraging the oil companies to raise gas prices gradually, we dont see any major jumps, small constant incremental amounts, this gives america time to adapt to the price that we will eventually be paying for.

If we go the next 5 years paying 2 bucks a gallon which we probably could, and then shit goes bad and the price jumps to 4-5 bucks a gallon, that would have catastrophic effects on our economy.

if we slowly raise it, our economy will adapt to the higher prices of gasoline, and we can manage with the new prices.

Some people will get rich off ot it sure, and if a few people get rich i dont care, as long as our economy does not come crashing down upon us im cool with the gradual raises, whatever they have to do to keep things moving.

This is going to be the new norm. It really is. America will need to change its views and culture around gasoline, there is no other option.

the golden years of gas are gone, america has done what it can and is now starting to come to match the rest of the world with gas costs.

are there coyuntries that pay less? yes. cause they use less cause either they dont have nearly as many cars on the road, or thier economy sucks and 1.50 a gallon is costing them an arm and a leg.

But yeah, everyone should get used to this,

gas prices around the world

rebelyell 05-14-2008 10:44 PM

good post bro, Yes we could be paying way more for gas, but we are America, We used to be feared by OPEC and the middle east oil countries. But since the debacle that Is the war on terrorism, everyone sees us as just another superpower drowning in it's debts. If it weren't for our recent economical situation, we would still be king of the hill and would be able to use a strong arm tactics to get the oil rich countries to lower the crude oil back to $55 a barrel. We do not have that " strong arm " ambience we once had. America is too caught up in fighting other country's wars, that we have become weaker as the end result.

Sad but true, we should be cutting off economic aid to everyone, EVERYONE, until OPEC decides that we aint fcking around anymore. Then we should explore our own resources, offshore and in protected "green" places. Gimme my gadaam gas, please, or I won't give you billions to save your people. Ultimatum time dammit.. :all:  :flamed:. Flame on
