Damn cops

I got pulled over last night by a local cop for my angel eye projector headlights. The officer said that the LED lights on the side were illegal and that they were blue. I was quick to point out the DOT and SAE approval stamps on the lens. He stated that this approval is for the lens, not the light. We continued to argue and he asked for me to come back to his Jeep. 20 minutes later he finally finds a code about lights and coloroed lights. I think that he knew he was wrong because he let me go, stating that around there they are strict and he doesnt know about the city I live in. He then said that I could find replacement LEDs to put in?!?! I was like isnt that why you pulled me over? He then said they were blue blah blah blah... Does anyone know if I am right?

JackThe Ripper 02-01-2008 02:58 PM

if you argued with him and he still diddnt write a ticket, i think he realized he was wrong.

Paint the pic for yer headlights a bit more, what part exactly was he talking about? got pics?

i know that blue lights on a car are illegal (not bluish headlights but solid blue lighting effects)

hey, cant bitch too much, regardless he could have been a bigger dick and goaded you into getting yerself in trouble

tsumi88 02-01-2008 02:59 PM

here in denver, no blue, red (in front) or even green!!!!!
people ive known get tickets for:
green windshield washer sprayer led things (ghey)
red led front turn signal
blue (hyper white) bulbs front turn signal
more than 4 lights in front (hi/low is 4 and add fog lights)
yellow headlights (except for the lexus' and crap that are stock)
purple/green/blue hedalights

yea, denver is strict....

reggedon 02-01-2008 03:12 PM

Not trying to sound like a bad guy to you guys, but yes those blue lights are illegal. We like to say the Vehicle Code book is 3000 pages of probable cause for an officer. Just because the officer you came in contact with was too lazy doesnt mean that its not illegal.

I see goddamn ricers in littleton with that crap all the time.

what part of denver are you from?

tsumi88 02-01-2008 03:19 PM

the way i see it, all those lights rarely, if ever make an actual improvement in night visibility....
so, what is the point.
(im referring to the halo/angel eyes things and "hyper white" lights....)
i know the PIAA, HID, even silverstars actually make a difference, that is why they cost more and are approved.....
damn beamers, see what you started....
lol

Here are a few links for the lights.

I got my set from AM awhile back and had a very hard time with the three LEDs on the side working, and they currently dont work. I exchange two pair and every single pair were defective. I got the lights because I wanted something different. I know a lot of you out there think that its ricey, but I like the lights well the apperance. They are not very bright. This may be due to the fact that my three LEDs on the sides dont work...IDK.

it is diferint in all states but here in washington it is agenst the law to drive with red or blue lites on your car, you can have them but they cant be turnd on wile on the road. they can only be turned on wile in a parking lot or for a show.

ya know, i see cars stock, off the assembly line with neon encirclying the projectors

if you changed those to white you should probably be fine.

the blue is definatly gonna attract cops tho

officer4c13 02-01-2008 04:13 PM

any light that you could say is blue is most likly not a good idea to put on you car inles you only turn in on wile you are not driving like for a show.

officer4c13 02-01-2008 04:15 PM

with these light it all depends on where you are at and the cop that stops you. i would not stop you for these lights.

reggedon 02-01-2008 09:52 PM

haha I just know how most of these boards feel against cops. We are not the most liked group on car message boards so I like to keep a low key. :p

Dave04Mustang 02-01-2008 10:03 PM

I'm guessing were talking about that random blue dot thats next to the halo's? Yeah I would say thats illegal (i can't see it helping visibility at all) I mean damn that thing looks like a UFO is coming at you haha.

officer4c13 02-01-2008 11:35 PM

i like it when people talk this way, i just wish that they knew its not us cops that make the law we just inforce it.

StreetRacer 02-02-2008 06:03 AM

no apologies, my boss always used to say "if you wanted a job where every one loved you, you should have been a firefighter...now get out there and haul those sons of bitches in"

Policeman vs. Firefighter

PColav6 02-02-2008 07:50 AM

Well I don't mind cops..and I love the way our city's cruisers look.. so...

And those headlights are ugly man, if I was a cop I'd pull you over just to laugh at those ridiculous things, and take a pic of 'em and post it up on a mustang forum as the next 'look at this ricer' topic. lol

BubbastanGT 02-02-2008 08:07 AM

no... it's the holier than thou attitude of most of the nations LEO's. Sorry bud (and this isn't necessarily aimed at you, you could be #13), I've trained a battalion of cops from all over the country in weapon-craft and urban combat and I gotta say they are the most arrogant bunch of a-holes I've ever had the displeasure to meet. If any one of the people I've trained or trained with interviewed for a street cop job with me, they'd be in the unemployment line.

Sorry cops, but you're not that badass and you shouldn't take yourselves so seriously. I've met maybe a dozen guys that are street cops and should continue to be one. They actually try to protect and to serve the public as servants, not solely encumbered by their desire to impress their personal power or authority over anyone. The communities they patrol love them and even the criminals they arrest respect them and say hi when they pass by.

Modern post 9/11 LEO's (those that became cops after 9/11) are the worst. Those that did it before 9/11 are 1 or the other... good guys or assholes.

Kumar was right... there's only 2 things you can do with no college education, no particular intellectual ability, no control over your personal insecurities, no ability to filter your feelings of superiority and a history of being a complete loser or a 5 year jock in high school. Be a beat cop or be a DMV clerk.
