Need Snow Board Help
 

I have a 10 year old daughter who wants a snow board for X-mas. She is a beginner. Where do I go and what should I spend? Any snow boarders out there?

well you need boots and bindings and the board so i have a feeling it would be around 200-300 for a beginner board and stuff. K2 Burton and ride make the best stuff if you ask me. all so i would go to a ski shop and talk with the people there so the can get it in the right size for her.

I would agree that Burton, and Ride make some of the best snowboard stuff around. I know you want it to be a suprise, but I'd recommend taking your daughter into the ski/snowboard shop and let her get a feel for what she likes....I say that cause there are different styles of bindings, boots, and boards and you want her to be comfortable.

What if I just went to Dicks or something like that. She has actually never snow boarded before except using toy stuff. I don't want to go cheap, but don't want to go crazy either.

maybe take her to the ski hill rent a board and have her take a lesson and see if she likes it. the reason for the lesson is its not as easy as it looks. and if she gets in to it i would try and get her a helmet safety first.

how tall is she?

i have an almost brand new (used it for a weekend in whistler when i was a lot younger) but its a burton punch, 133 cm, and ive been trying to sell it so i can buy a board that would fit me now.. i also have burton bindings, and sims boots (size 7). The boots have a little wear, but the bindings are in good condition and the board is almost brand new. I can get pics up if you would like.

take her snowboarding first. on the first day she's going to fall A LOT. so many people give up and never touch a snowboard again. you don't want to spend 300 bucks and have her go one time. but since she's 10 she's much more likely to have a good time even when falling a bunch. rent some stuff locally (cheaper) take her to a resort, get her some snowboard lessons..and see how she likes it. good luck, I hope she sticks with it

has nothing to do with height...that's a common snowboard misconception. the length of the board is determined by weight. how much does she weigh? that 133 might work.

when buying boots for her, have her try MANY on. snowboarding is a "feet first" sport. boots are the most important, then bindings, then the board.

the better her stuff fits, the better a time she'll have.

I used to ski, so it looks like a lot of the rules are the same. I will have to measure her up I guess. My daughter does not ask for much and this is the ONLY thing on hr X-Mas list right now.

I guess I could just take her shopping and go from there. Normally I am fine with used stuff, but for x-mas, I think I will have to stick with new.

buying bindings and a board online is fine. but IMHO you should really have her try on as many boots as possible.

Yea..boots are a biggie... if your boots don't fit right..you probably won't get up on the board right either..

Its more a less a comfort type thing with that.

You could even try like a copelands superstore..she doesn't need anything spectacular..i mean shes not competing...

to 3.8, ive only lived up in west chester for like a year and only got out to blue mountain.. ill prob get out to bear creek over winter break tho ive heard many good things

ive been to blue mountain a few times. but bear creek is my stomping ground im there 3 times a week at the lest season pass ftw.

if you in to Freestyle bear creek has the best park in pa if you ask me.

i would not buy things online becouse you dont want the boots to over hang the board if the boots are to big for the board you have toe drag and thats not fun.

yeah i've been snowboarding for about 10 years and i suggest that you rent first to make sure she likes it first. I don't recommend spending over 150-200 bucks for everything becuase if she does like it....she's going to grow out of the board as she gets heavier. And i don't know one 10 year old that has stayed the same weight. Boots, Boots, Boots.....they HAVE TO FIT!!!!! My boots got burnt up in my car when i had the accident and i finished out the rest of that season with rented boots (they never had my size) and i had the worst time because if they don't fit right...your not going to want to ride. You'll either slide around in them for your feet will be numb for them being too tight (not to mention toe crush).

All in all see if she likes it first. :) I can still remember my first 2 trips...i HATED it and i was 12...but it comes naturally after that. I always tell first timers " you have to want to snowboard to snowboard". All that falling will make you not want to do it..but if you truly want to carve your way down the mtn....you have to keep getting up.

get her weight and that will determine the size of the board. i use a k2 satillite (not the best but got a good price for it) ride bindings and van boots which do not fit me and it makes my boarding experience bad.

bear creek has the best terrain park in PA hands down since they re did it a few years ago. ive been to bear creek, blue mountain, montage, camel back, breckenridge, killington, smugglers notch. and i still go back to bear creek cause the terrain park is that good....cept for breckenridge.....thats a hike. lol

i got to go to whistler/blackcomb up in vancouver for my spring break a couple years ago ... absolutely amazing.. it was in april and still tons of fresh powder up near the top ... and there are like 8 terrain parks between the two hills but you have to be real good to use all of it, shits big

I found something that I think will work great for her. Everything is new, and she can bring the boots back and exchange if they don't fit right. Everything is for a reasonable price including a $218 board for $90.....last-years model.

As far as renting first....nice idea, but it is is X-Mas and we just don't have that option. We have some nice 10 - 30 foot hills w/in walking distance to the house, and all the younger kids use them until they are ready to hit the real slopes or when their parents won't take them - lol

My daughter asks for nothing, ever.....this is the one thing she wants, so I don't get in the way.

BTW, I want to start too. I think boarding looks a lot more fun then skiing though, I never tried. I will rent first and then go from there. We have annual slope passes already, so we do plan to go often.

When I am ready to buy, I will see if any of you guys have some used boards and bindings.

BTW, my daughter is pretty petite. She weighs about 60 lbs and is 125 mm to her nose.

and you absolutely need to try it, at least for a day or weekend.. you will spend a lot of time on your backside but if you keep getting up you will learn and love it

She already has one. Kids have these things these days like I used to have play dough. It works out well because when we drop her off at an activity, she can reach us.

yeah ive never gotten into it but ive been boarding before and its awesome. it will be very fun for your little girl. it will something very different and very enjoyable.
