My Sumitomo Horror Story

So I ordered 2 new rear 315's from AM a few weeks ago along with some black acorn lugs. Everything arrived in great time and great shape...now for the horror story of Tires Plus in Pensacola ((NEVER GO THERE))

Arrive on a Saturday morning to get the old 315s off and the new ones on. 3 hours after hearing them bitch about how hard they were, they were finally on and I was on my merry way.

Sunday morning I head out to open my store. BOTH rear tires are flat! Had to call a tow truck to come pick the car up and take it to Tires Plus. They told me they cut the bead on both tires when they put them on.

Monday (Labor Day) they were open but could not order anything because everyone else was closed. The manager said they were going to put my old tires back on until they new ones they ordered from Tire Rack arrived BUT they ruined both my old tires too.

Some poor guy at Tires Plus sacrificed his stock rear rims and tires for me to use since they F-ed up.

SO FINALLY after looking like a ricer for a week 1/2! After an original 3 hour wait in the first tire store, a scuffed up rim, a chipped center cap, 2 ruined brand new tires, a tow truck ride on a Sunday, a Labor Day with no car to clean on my day off, 2 stock ass Mustang rims for a week 1/2 with zero traction in the rain, a reimbursement of original mount and balance, reimbursement of tow truck bill, a trip to a new tire store with 1 tire in the front seat, 1 tire in the back, 2 rear rims in the trunk, a 45 min wait today, a higher mount and balance fee ($114), missed time at work, lost money at work, a trip back to the original tire store with the stock ass rims inside my car to re-deliver them to the owner, and probably a few gray hairs later....I HAVE MY WHEELS ON! THANK YOU BABY JESUS!

Here is what I looked like for a week 1/2!

stanger00 09-12-2007 08:28 AM

Nofire 09-12-2007 10:45 AM

I would have been irate at the whole thing and refused to pay them after what they put me through.

stanger00 09-12-2007 10:49 AM

Sounds like the tire shop that you went to has dumbasses working there..:)..3 hrs to install some 315's......It them about 20 minutes when I had mine mounted..:)

PColav6 09-12-2007 01:43 PM

Lol...definitely having AM put the tires on themselves when I order wheels..

Hey see if they want to trade those 5 spoke stocks for my wheels, haha.

venom 09-12-2007 01:54 PM

That sucks, I have taken mine to Pep boys and never had an issue.

Slither 09-12-2007 02:03 PM

Yeah...you just never think of a tire store tearing your tires up

Getting 2 more sumitomos next week from tire rack. I noticed when i had my 2 rears installed the guy was having an issue with mounting them. He asked the older guy what to do and he showed him without an issue. I was concerned that maybe the young guy just didn't have the experience to mount the tires, but all worked out ok. Gotta watch em. If they are struggling then speak up. Pick the old man in the shop and ask him to mount for you. The young guy should watch and learn..

Yeah it happens alot. My roommate works for a tire place here in Orlando while he looks for a full time Motorcycle mechanics job but thats not the point.

He tells me horrific story's of other employees just tossing wheels on and off throwing rims on the ground not even bothering to look at the tire pressure on the cars door and just tossing like 30psi in any tire. there is alot of bullshit going on in those stores. I have never had a problem going to "Discount Tire co." stores and they seem to be very good to there customers, and there cars. I have left and basically spied on them a few times because i just hear so many story's about tire shops screwing up peoples cars.

But i have been screwed by tire kingdom who scracthed the shit out of a rim on my old 99 F150 then said it was there before hand. Big 10 tires has actully driven my car along with Firestone tire places without ever telling me why they would need to drive my car and who was driving. I did get reimbursed from Big 10 and from what i was told the guy was fired because he has done it before. Firestone on the other hand said it was normal to drive my car after installing new tires yet i never signed anything saying they can do so. As i dont want someone driving my car hitting the nitrous on and destroying my motor, tranny, rear end, car in general.

SO i feel for ya man, but dont let it bother you to much it sounds like they really tried to get this straightened out for you which is nice and alot better then other times i have been screwed.

Sorry for the long post :)

I have taken my wheels and tire in but without the car and at Pep boys you can see through the glass window to see what the guy is doing.

WaterDR 09-13-2007 06:31 PM

I generally go to speed shops to get my 315's installed and never had an issue. I did use Pep Boys once and only because a guy there insisted he could do it even though the manager did not want to.

Taking just the rims in is a good idea if you don;t trust a place with the car and I would NEVER take my car to a shop with a full nitrous bottle. I also have a valet tune on my car that prevents the rpms from going over 2800.

spike_africa 09-14-2007 08:05 AM

Nitrous bottle is always empty when i take it somewhere im not an idiot. They can still spray fuel and blow my manifold or just ruin the car in general trying to pretend like they can drive.
