Old vs. New.

So I recently played a game of cat and mouse with an 05-07 v6 mustang and I drive a 96 v6. Now, I had been messing around with my friend who was driving her dads modded 04 gt, and I put the peddle to the floor and took and she chased me but slowed down because she got scared I guess, but I noticed the other mustang come up behind me, and Im at like 80mph and I slow down to let him catch up cause I noticed he was coming up pretty quick, but as he got closer I noticed he wasnt slowing down so I hit the gas to keep from falling too far behind, but he did pass me but I caught up at about 90 something and then started to pass him and stayed passed him until my gov. kicked in, and then he passed....

Now suppose we did a heads up race from a complete stop.

Could that mustang beat mine, lets say...in a quarter mile, or is it too heavy to get ahead of me until its hp kicks in?

i'm puttin my money on the 06....not only does it have the advantage of 210hp vs 150hp in the 96 v6..but with a 10 year younger engine vs yours...i'd say he wins sorta easily...unless you modded up yours and kept up with the oil changes over the last 10 years...its all fun though so do it anyway

I don't know the weight on a 96, but a 05-07 has an extra 200 lbs. on a 99-04 model. Even with that extra weight, it's not possible stock to stock for your 96 to beat a new v6.

Yeah, I have to agree....your car isn't a match for a new v-6 stangs. They run extremely well. Hell they have as much HP as older GT's, however the torque is what seperates them.

Heh, I just thought it was kind of wierd that I caught, and passed him until I hit that magical number of 110.

But hey, I did have an rx8 by half a car the other night, course, he was gaining, but we went well over a quarter of a mile. And btw, my cars' automatic and I heard that a good way to launch and automatic is to rev up just enough to where the tires are almost spinning, and then let go of the brake and floor it. Is that better than just taking off without revving?

Dude I'm sorry but you'd lose by a pretty embarassing amount. I only pull about 2 car lengths on the new V6's and that's with 10" wide tires and 4.10s.

Here are some specs:

1995 Mustang 3.8 9.9 17.3

2007 Mustang 4.0 6.5 15.3 http://www.caranddriver.com/features...stang-v-6.html

Cheers!

Yeah, so Im thinking maybe that guy was playing around.

Thats pretty impressive for the base model. 6.5 second 0-60..to hell with fixing mine up, Ill just buy a new one..

On that site up there, it said that the v6 3.8 does 0-60 in 9.9...mine is a '96 and its doing its 0-60 in 10.44. What could be the problem there?

yeah the 05+ V6s are definately much faster then your V6. One problem is they are 5spds in auto and manual so they have better gearing there, also not sure what rearend gear they have, but i know you have a 2.37:1 rear gear, 99+ like mine have the 3.27 and i think the new ones do to, but not 100% on that. Plus the added hp/tq they have over you will definately put the win with them. As for your car doing 0-60 in 10.4, well dude our cars are v6's they aren't very fast, they are heavy and yours is 10/11 years old now, so it's lost alot of the initial go it had to get it to 60 when it rolled off the factory lines.

The new ones are 3.31, so pretty damn close

alright, good to know. So yep another advantage for the 05+ over the 94-98's. :)

And the manual tranny GT's from 05-06 have a 3.55 stock (it was an option in 07 and again this year)

NeedACobra 09-01-2007 08:01 AM

Heh, well atleast my cars still got enough guts to take out those girly little rx8s, haha.

White04GT 09-01-2007 09:07 AM

don't waste your time with the 6 unless you have a large amount of cash to drop in it. Get a GT or a Mach 1.

NeedACobra 09-02-2007 10:48 PM

man I wish I had $9000 for this bad-boy.
