Dealer auction questions
 

hey i was just wondering if any of you had ever been to a dealer auction... and if you would trust buying a car from them... and if you thought i could find a GT for around $6500... preferably a 99 body style, but i wouldnt mind to have the body style before that...

be careful, bring a paint depth gauge to check for re-paints. buyer be ware a lot of cars end up at those auctions for a reason. but there are some killer deals there also.

if you KNOW what you're looking at and how to identify a real find as opposed to a old-n-busted flood wreck then dealer auctions can be very good places to go. Long back in the history of the galaxy I used to earn a living buying and selling cars from dealer auctions.

Watch out for plants... guys that are there just to up-bid. They'll bid on everything but buy nothing.

Also, don't bid over 5500 or you'll not have enough of your 6500 bones left to pay the auctioneers premium & associated fees.

I'm a vehicle inspector at a large wholesale auto auction, and I have been a part of buying cars at auction as well. The auction I work at requires a dealer license to participate. Some auctions are open to the public though. Also, many auctions are running an on-line simulcast when cars are crossing the block, in addition to many "account" cars(rentals, repos, off-leases) being offend for sale on-line 24/7. Every Tuesday the auction I work at sends 4,000-6,000 units across the block every Tuesday, 52 times a year, of every sort from the account cars to the dealer cars brought to the site. There is much to chose from, and I see plenty of 'stangs you speak of.

I think the car you are looking for could be found for given money. As far as concerns about buying a car as it is represented on the auction block, most reputable auctions have arbitration rules and given criteria on what may be grounds for a buyback. You can find and declare the damage yourself within a certain time period, or if available you can send the car to a post-sale inspection on site and have things checked over by someone like me. As for having fees added to your sale price, just make sure the dealer you have go to the auction on your behalf is up front about what charges will be above and beyond the sale price. They know, so make sure they inform you beforehand.

good show with the info snow. when I did it there was just 50 guys and 40 acres of cars... no interweb. If you have any links to good sites that sell fleet/lease/repo/etc... that would be super cool as reference.

The auction I work at sits on 190+ acres of asphalt, and the average dealer attendance is in excess of 2,000. Add employs of auction and dealers, detailers, vendors, transporters, and whoever else may find their way up there and you are talking 5,000+ people on that lot. It is a zoo around there, but the plain number of cars astounds me every day.

I so wish I could post some info, but for one I don't know exactly how to access it on the web and for two I know that there is some type of dealer registration that you have to complete to even get to the best information.

Give me a minute or two, let me see if I can find something. In all honesty, I've never looked up the auction on-line... but I will, right now.

i just looked tonight on how much i have saved up, and its right at $6200 in cash, so hopefully i will find a deal up there
the auction i'm going to is in indianapolis, and my cousin said that he figured there would be about 1500 cars there
i just hope i can find a sports car, mustang preferrably, but even a camaro or trans am or somethin along those lines would be fine... i dont even care if its a LT1 or LS1, just as long as i have a set of wheels that i can play around with a little bit

i wouldnt even mind coming away with an sn95 body style 4.6, or even a 5.0
actually i owned a 1995 5.0 gt for about 8 hours, but it was such a p.o.s. and i was lied to about what was wrong with it, so i took it back on the spot after i had a mechanic look at it
