Anyone know anything about air compressors?
 

I recently obtained a Husky oiless air compressor (26 gallon, 150 psi) for free from work. At the time the motor wasn't coming on at all. I don't know what I did, but after pulling the motor/pump assembly off, eyeing it over, and putting it back on, the motor now runs. The carbon brushes are worn, which I know I need to address, but the problem is that I can't get the thing to pressurize above 100 PSI. It just stabilizes and motor runs continuously. The tank is not losing air, so I'm not fighting a problem like that.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? From what I've read, the cutoff switch is off at 125 and on at 90, and hasn't been adjusted. I haven't tried adjusting it to cut off sooner to see it would even cut off or not, but I didn't want to have it at such a low psi anyway. Thoughts???

Not an expert on air compressors, But it's probably the piston just can't pressurize the tank anymore. That's a pretty big tank to get to 150 lbs.. I got a lil' 3 gallon tank with a 1.5 hp motor.. It holds 125 psi for a few seconds lol. Then the motor comes on again. If it's electric, I've been told to NOT leave it plug in intil you need to use it, That will add to life of the unit. Not sure about oiless compressor though.. You need at least 100+ lbs of air to do much of anything. Mine good for pumping tires up. But I wouldn't want to run any air tools off her..

I have a 1 gallon compressor and I can get mine to 100 psi. I'd get the whole motor checked out though might cost a few bones but hey you got it for free what do you expect.

Yep, I'm not complaining, I just wanted to try and figure it out. The fact I got it for free is why I am even messing with it anyway. I can get a motor and pressure switch (the ENTIRE top end) from eBay for $100. With nothing wrong with the tank, I figured that was acceptable. Plus I get to tinker lol
