So any of you in california

Got a Diablo Predator? Apparently once i hook it in i won't be able to pass smog or some garbage..

Was wondering if there was any way I could..fix that

Also..are all the tunes the same for the gt/v6?

stanger00 02-26-2007 11:51 PM

just take the tune out when you go to get a smog. i have a california tag but i always did the out of state thing.

SnTBakosFinest 02-26-2007 11:59 PM

im not driving all the way out of state just for my damn smog.

I was looking at diablos message boards..apparently the stock tune they give isn't the same as fords..but i just go to like..troubleshoot and then "restore stock tune" or some crap and it does it... if not...looks like i'll be driving to nevada, lol.

no i actually lived in delaware and was exempt from emissions, all my mom had to do was fill out a extra form. dont drive to nevada thats retarded. smog checks are only every 2 years and it doesnt take long to restore factory tune.

I haven't had to smog my car yet, but I'm assuming you'd just put the car back to stock for the test and then re-load it when you leave....It takes like 5 minutes...not a big deal. do you have any other mods? I'd be more worried about those than the diablo tune

r3dn3ck 02-27-2007 11:46 AM

I just called a pal of mine to confirm and it's pure BS... there's no reason to restore your stock tune unless you fail the sniffer.

The guy I got off the phone with has a fully tuned cobra and just got his smog done on the rollers... passed with flying colors. You don't go in telling them you have a performance tune (cuz that's fuggin stupid) but you don't have to outright lie about it either because it's a NON ISSUE.

EDIT: If that were the case, nobody with a legal aftermarket blower kit would fail and probably damage their engine on the way to their smog check.

On their boards a guy posted a problem..he was driving a 98 Cobra had a diablo on and could pass smog because the computer or w/e was reading "not ready" in 3 different areas..he tried to restore the stock tune..but apparently the stock tune is diff then his factory..but I guess he was able to restore his old tune by going through the program..

Was basically my worry, probably won't apply to me, and was just an issue he had because he has a cobra..

my car wont pass the sniff test. so i have to put it to stock drive around a bit to get all the smell away pull up and smog it then park reinstall it laugh at the smog people and drive away.

SnTBakosFinest 02-27-2007 12:31 PM

lol alright. so i can just go to "restore stock tune" or w/e and it'll pass?

Cheddarbob 02-27-2007 12:32 PM

yup

Cheddarbob 02-27-2007 12:33 PM

thats the good thing about the predator. They never knew you had one. With a chip they know you have or had one.

SnTBakosFinest 02-27-2007 12:34 PM

Sweet..cause I bought badfishes tuner last night...and i didn't think about the smog think.. lol.

Cheddarbob 02-27-2007 12:35 PM

haha yeah you will be fine

It's not CARB certified, so they have to post that. Oddly, if it comes as part of a CARB certified blower kit, then it's ok. So clearly they're only saying that because they have no choice.

I'll bet he had as part of his tune:
Traction control disabled
Rear O2's disabled
And some other sensor... maybe rev limiter or cooling system setting out of spec or a aftermarket "calibrated" maf.

Not ready means the sensor isn't providing data to the ecu or the ecu isn't listening (computers is computers so to speak). The OBDII port under the dash is a serial interface to the ECU but there has to be some application on the inspector's side that looks for things out of whack. Lacking data on a given set of sensors because the ECU has been told not to listen to them is a likely way to have their inspection application barf. That's a guess but I betcha a buck I'm right.

In any case all those things are optional parameters and you can always return your car to stock with a handheld. To not have that option would be extra dumb for the manufacturer of the handheld.

Just wondering why your car won't pass smog? Doesn't look like you have anything illegal done to it.

I do pass smog. Its just when they sniff they think that it smells like burning fuel. But when they run it its all good. It just smells like a no pass with the predator on.

r3dn3ck 02-27-2007 02:04 PM

tell em to quit sniffin fer daisies and get back to work.

how were your results? post em up... I wanna look.

SnTBakosFinest 02-27-2007 04:57 PM

You're prolly right redneck. I was a little concerned.. but I imagine that what you said is what he did, lol..
