Certificate of Destruction COD Title Car Anyone know anything about these
 

Hello, I just purchased a mustang with a COD title. I live in Arkansas and the COD title is from Florida. Anyone see any problems with doing this? Anyone ever done this before? I got a smokin deal on an 01 GT Vert. now if I can only get it titled....

Yea I have seen that link. Not very usefull. Really dont think it matters all that much what florida's laws are since I am trying to title the car in Arkansas, but I could be wrong, even read one of their laws that said that the car could never be titled in any other state and last time I checked states could only make laws for their own state and not others.

TO my knowledge is and what I just read in the DMV if you read a little closer it is actually useful indeed. Once a COD has been issued against the title it is bascially deemed totaled and unsalvagable and once this COD is in the national DMV records for that vehicle you are not able to do anything with that car. Meaning they will not issue you plates nor tags. And theres no way to take that out of the computer.

Meaning you bought a car that you wont be able to drive on the road because you wont be able to get any paperwork for it. That COD is for insurance purposes so people could get their money for their cars it's not a title. It's a piece of paper that says your car is trash and the DMV knows it now basically...lol

-Now find yourself a car that has a salvage title and use the car you got for parts because thats all it's good for really. I hope you didn't spend too much.

From the Florida DMV website: "Existing law only prohibits the retitiling of an unrebuilable vehicle. It does not prevent such vehicle from being rebuilt or sold in a rebuilt condition in Florida, thus making vehicles available in what would otherwise be an unsafe condition for persons outside this state. To prohibit the rebuilding or selling of an unrebuildable vehicle that has been rebuilt in the state would clearly send a message to those who are redoing these unsafe vehicles that the state will not tolerate such conduct."

A Certificate of Destruction (or C of D) is only issued when the car is unrebuildable (as deemed by the insurance company). These are cars that required more than 80% of the vehicle's cost to repair.

If this were a salvaged title however, it may be possible to retitle it. So, in short, no you cannot.

Well I may have found a state that will title the car for me. Got a friend there I may have to sell the car to get it titled. Wish me lucks. :)

That car is only good as a part car. You will never be able to get it titled. Even salvage cars are a royal pain in the ass in some states.

They used to make exceptions if you could restore to damn near stock conditions. Now they dont, once its locked in, it's locked in that car is supposed to be destroyed or parted out. Even when you try and insure it that VIN number will show up as a trashed car.

Well I talked to my insurance agent, and they pretty much said they will insure anything with liability. So I don't think insurance will be a problem.

Here in Kentucky--I have purchased a vehicle from an auction with a Florida Certificate of Desturction title. Here most of the time you can go through a few steps and bring it up to what they call a Red Salvage title and then to a Red Rebuilt title. Here in Kentucky you can license them, just like any other car; however, most states do not honor this and if one should move out of Kentucky and go to another state, it is very likely that you would not be able to license it. I just did RED Rebuilt title on another vehicle. I will only buy these vehicle if I plan on keeping them or if a person I know here in Kentucky wants one and understands completely what all of it means.
