Kind of an odd question..

This is a little off topic for a Mustang site, but... What the Hell..

Anyway.. Im lookin' to shed a few pounds, and get a little more lean.. Anyone in here do any work-outs or exercising? Is aerobics really the best way to lean up? ie: Running/ swimming, etc... I really don't want to build alot of muscle, because im already pretty damn strong, just want some more definition.

My main problem is... Well, hoenstly my diet. Basically because I was the youngest child and my parents didn't make me eat my fruits/ veggies like my other brothers, so I am a VERY picky eater.. So, I finally went out and got a good multi-vitamin to hopefully help even out some of the gray areas. (to clarify, I do not over-eat, nor am I overweight. I Just don't have enough quality food in my diet.)

The last thing I want to do is become some carb-crazy, calorie counting freak..

I think my plan of attack is going to be, get a gym membership and try to go 2-3 times a week and focus on aerobic/ core type exercises, I've also decided to try a dietary supplement, I just bought Stacker3 and Im going to try that in conjunction with the workouts..

I really appreciate any helpful input, im just concerned about being healthy and I think it's time to try and make some changes in my life.

Yeah, I kinda figured that was going to be the main response. Look at forums etc..

By doing the opposite, you mean you're trying to bulk up? Add Muscle, I assume.

Go to the book store and pick up a copy of "The Zone" by Barry Sears. Read the first 100 pages or so and follow it. 3 mos from now you can buy me a beer.

The majority of supplements are a waste of money. Maybe thats a different story if you're a body builder, but you arent, and neither am I. But weight loss supplements especially are a waste of money. Basically what they do is dehydrate you and thats where the weight loss comes from, the majority of it is water weight. They are an unhealthy way of losing weight, and not covered by the FDA, so who knows whats in them and what exactly is going to happen to your body.

Probably the best advice so far. But dont believe everything you read, most of it is just advertisements. Hell, same thing goes for MMFF

Carbs are important whether you're trying to lose weight or not. In fact a normal diet should consist of 55% carbs, 30% fat, and 15% protein. Those numbers should not vary much. You should not remove more then 10% from any one. And whatever you reduce, should be added to something else (it should always equal 100%). For you, Id go with 60% carbs, 25% fat, and 15% protein. Lean Cusines are tv dinners and rather healthy for you. Good mono and polyunsaturated fats which are good for you. Also fairly low in carlories, etc.

Heres a good way to think about weight loss. 3500kcals = 1lbs of fat. You SHOULD NOT be losing more then 2lbs per week. If you are then its not healthy, nor is it 100% fat. Anyways, 3500/7= 500kcals. Burn 500kcals per day and youll lose 1lbs per week. Or lose 100kcals per day and youll lose 2lbs of fat per week. Analyze your diet and see how many kcals you cant take out from it, then burn the rest doing exercise. When it comes down to the end of the day, the most important thing is calories taken in compared to calories expelled.

My major is Exercise Physiology.

If your looking to burn calories, loose weight and lean up, a basic rule of thumb for working out is:

Low weight, High reps. Essentially, using your muscles to burn the calories. A good mixer of aerobics and weight training, alternating days for upper and lower body. The key is to get your heart rate up and keeping it close to its max threshold based on your weight and age. Honestly, one of the best excercises you can do is walking 30+ minutes a day. Just by doing a daily walk, you can really strengthen your cardiovascular system and make it more efficient. Get with a personal trainer to set up a 2-3 day a week circuit training program and you'll shed your weight like nobody's business.

apexmotorsports 01-06-2007 07:25 PM

The 1st thing you need to do is change your diet... no amount of excercise is going to help without changing your diet. I would cut out red meat, pork, fried stuff, fast foods, and sugar. Eat alot of fish, skin-less chicken, fruits, and veggies. Drink alot of grapefruit juice and water to help flush out your system. If you don't really like to exercise pick up walking or cycling. Jogging is great for losing weight but is real bad for your joints.

If you use the above as a guideline you'll start to see the pounds shed slowly. :)
