Speeding Tickets Suck

Just got pulled over in NC on highway 70. There was a friend of mine driving a spec V or whatever and he was talking **** that my 04 cobra was to heavy and slow to hang. So I showed him but I got clocked at 123 in a 55 NO GOOD. I'm going to get a lawyer anyone got any other good advice. Hey if I can't afford the insurance I might sell it.

venom 05-05-2005 04:55 AM

Whats wierd is that that was your 123 post.

mgar22 05-05-2005 05:54 AM

I'm sure you will be getting "good" advice from others. Here's mine: Don't Speed!! :icon_thum

judges love to see lawyer for 2 reasons 1 your putting money back into the system and 2 it shows you are concerned. if the cop didnt get you in a speed contest which would mean he also pulled over the other guy. make up a reason why you where speeding. let the judge know you where speeding but you where not doing 123 mph. i went through this already but in New York. it was my first offence and i got 11 points on my lisence but the judge close the file and didnt tell my insurence co. motor vehicale only holds points on your lisence for 18 month and after that i had a clean lisence and insurence never knew anything. i also had to pay a fine of $375 for travaling at high speeds. good luck.

Hwy 70--Good=long, straight, open.
Bad=cops everywhere. :BangHead:

So let me get this straight, you broke the law, did that much over the limit, and are getting a lawyer?

Own up to it, pay your ticket, take your points. I think this one's a bit too clear cut.

in new york at the speed he was going the ticket is to appear in court there is no fine, the judge has to set that and he could also lose his lisence but it maybe different in nc. also invest in a valintine 1 they work great.

I got a speeding ticket in NC when I served down there. Truthfully, you will probably lose your liscense for 6 months, as anything 20 over the speed limit in a 55mph or higher zone is pretty much automatic suspension. I had a lawyer for my 85 in a 55. Didn't get me out of a suspension or a fine at all.

Tell me this...cop catches you with laser (instant, pinpoint reading). As soon as your radar detector goes off, he has already read your speed. You try convincing him you weren't speeding with a radar detector hanging in the window. Is it gonna work?

Easiest way to get out of speeding tickets is to not speed in the first place...take it to the track.

MattJ 05-05-2005 10:33 AM

Ive got an idea. Lets trade mustangs. Your insurance is going to SKYROCKET.

USMCstang 05-05-2005 10:34 AM

Oh yeah...forgot to add. Being in the service, you are double screwed. The locals don't care too much for "punk kids from the bases" Believe me, I was one once, out at Cherry Point.

The radar detecter is to let you know there is a cop ahead or behind so you can slow down its not there to help you speed.even with instant on the police officer is probably shooting at other cars in front of you and the detecter will pick it up. the v1 on a straight way can see up to 5 miles, way before a cop can even lock his radar onto your plate. and the last time i was in nc the cops always had there radar on so its easy to spot cops. a lawyer will not get you a'' get out of jail free card'' but it helps to have someone there that knows the law better then you. radar guns are not 100% either, there are a lot of things that through them off and a good lawyer will know what they are.

USMCstang 05-05-2005 11:36 AM

The operative word in all that is "radar". Laser is pinpoint accuracy, it does not spread like radar does. Half the time the detector wont even go off if the officer shoots at your license plate or headlights.

Let me quote a friend of mine...here's a link as well:

(a). Well, the Captain Obvious answer he is simple -- don't ****ing speed. With highway speeding tickets at 65 mph in almost all states, there's really no need to -- you can easily cruise along at 70mph and not a cop in sight will bother you. Late for work? Leave earlier. Gotta get to the store before it closes? Leave earlier. Trying to make good time on that trip to go see mom and dad? Think of how much time you'll lose when you're in your holding cell getting your buttery corn hole gang raped by a bunch of drunk bikers. And if you want to speed through a residential area? Just don't. PERIOD. That's just stupid. My father's a truck driver and by proxy, an excellent driving teacher (also taught me the in's and out's of swearing...trust me when I say he's a good ****ing teacher). He always taught me to drive through residential areas like some drooling kid is going to leap out from behind every parked car and chase down his bouncing red ball. I've been driving for ten years, and I STILL follow that rule. Places where people live, work, go to school, and play, are off limits to the zoom-zoom driver. Period. The two or three minutes you might save by hitting light speed through the back roads, as compared to the amount of time you'll spend in jail for running over little Drooling Johnny is *nothing*. If whoever is waiting for you can't stand you being two or three minutes late... then **** em.

(b). Radar Detectors. Useless. Junk. Ka-ka. Nothing but electronic gadgetry designed to give you a false sense of security. I've been pulled over more times with a radar detector, then without. I finally ended up giving it away to my brother, because I didn't want it anymore. For starters, let me first introduce you to instant on or pulse radar, and then to laser guns (LIDAR). Each of which by the time you detect them... Officer Friendly is already filling out your speeding ticket. Radar Detectors make you feel like you're the baddest mother****er out there. They make you feel like you can drive balls to the wall because you've got a clean signal. Clean signal? Well, tell me just how clean your shorts are when you get those flashing lights in your rear view mirror. Pulse radar, laser, even helicopters that track your speed by those white lines marked on the highway all render your snazzy new radar detector virtually useless. And when you do get pulled over, and you do have those bright LEDs and beeping tones when the officer walks up to your window... YOU try and convince him you were speeding by accident.

(c). Your eyes. Are the best radar/laser/cop/accident/hazard detectors you have. Keep you ****ing eyes open. Watch the sides of the road for cars pulled over. Watch you rear view mirror for those familiar headlights of the Crown Victoria, LTD, Caprice Classic. (If your state uses other unmarked police cars like Mass does -- you're screwed -- good luck). Early Warning Radar -- watch for brake lights coming on the cars that are ahead of you -- what do they see that you don't? Besides, you want to ease up off you speed when approaching a car on the side of the road anyway, because Drooling Johnny could be chasing a spare tire. Also watch for other passenger vehicles driving towards you, which are flashing their headlights. They're trying to warn you about something ahead -- maybe something in the road, accident ... or a cop running radar from the bushes.

(d) Flow of traffic. Think that you're invulnerable just because you're driving with the flow of traffic? Well, my answer to this is simple and was most eloquently described in a fishing joke. Cop pulls a guy over for speeding, whose defense was, I was just going with the flow of traffic. Cop's response... Ever go fishing? -- Yeah -- Ever catch ALL the fish? -- Catch my drift? The ?I was going with the flow of traffic defense doesn't work. More on that later.

(e) Lane choice. Simple. Left lane bad. Middle lane good. Right lane bad (unless there's no middle lane, in that case right lane good). Cops running radar on the side of the road will hit the outer lanes first. Besides the middle lane drive at a more reasonable pace, so see rule 1A above.

There's much more on this subject on the link I posted.

Great post USMC!

And if you're doing 120 and your detector goes off, I don't think you're gonna slow down quick enough to avoid getting a ticket period.

gtnumber2 05-05-2005 12:40 PM

im not disagreeing with you but my radar detecter came in handy plenty of times, here the speed limit is 55 mph and i wont go over 70mph and ive been hit with all radar bands and lazer and for one reason or another i havent been pulled over in years. the flashing lights and brake lights from cars up ahead is common sense but the were plenty of times my detecter went off and there were no brake lights or someone brighting us coming the other way and thats because the cop was on the corner of an over pass and you know the cop will choose a red mustang in a group of cars to pull over.so i try not to over do it. All it comes down to is more tools to help you see radar is better then just relying on your self. common sense is a major factor in spotting cops also. and a loud exhaust doesnt help either.

Want some advice? Save the lawyer money for the insurance. YOU WERE DRIVING 123 MPH! No lawyer can get you out of that, none, and if they do, that judge shouldnt be doing his job. Sorry, but thats how it is, there is no reason that you should have to prove ANYTHING to a nissan sentra that is talking crap. NONE! Especially to 123mph on the interstate where my family and I drive everyday. Now that Im done preaching, accept the fact that you prolly wont drive for 6 months, and start deciding what you are going to do with your car, because the ins. rates will prolly suck. I dunno man, just dont try to get outta something you KNOW you did wrong. Try the 4 point reduction classes, and if you feel like spending the money, you could TRY a lawyer, but at over 120 mph, i dont even see how you arent in jail right now. Good luck, hopefully this has been a learning experience.
