Done any schooling online? High School, College? anything?

I am not a big fan of it. I looked into getting my Masters this way, but opted for a brick and motor location. I can tell you that employers generally do not look as fondly on these programs as a standard program.

wnracing, yea i've been looking at online things too.. my dad doesn't seem to like it... i'm thinking the interaction between students and teachers wouldn't be as good..

And Water may have just saved me from doing something dumb ;p

I'm taking an online English course through my university come Winter quarter. My other four courses are on campus.

I've had a few friends who've taken them and said they weren't bad, and some are actually hard. They also mentioned there's a lot more work since you can do it whenever you want basically. Obviously this will vary from school to school.

EDIT: If you're thinking about doing 100% online school through one of those online universities and not a major university, get it out of your head. There are a few major universities that offer 100% online, I believe Penn State is one of them. Again obviously since it will be a well known school more than likely, the cost will still be large even online.

How about night courses? Anyone know much about those? =p

I LOVE night classes. I took 4 courses last quarter.
Mon: 7-945
Tues: 430-645
Wed: 7-945
thursday: 430-645 & 7-945

Let's say this: Monday I was actually in class the entire time just about ever week, Tues/Thursday started at 430 and usually got out around 615 or earlier. And Wed we always got out at 8:15.

So, as you can see, I'm not usually there the entire time. It's late at night usually, and professors don't want to be there anymore than you do, so they tend to let you out earlier.

That being said, my winter quarter it 4 evening classes and one online course.

Sweet, cause like, once I decide what I actually want to do with my life (i seriously dont want to be in a office or something) I'm wanting to go to work during the day, and school during the night. ;x

well right now I am taking morning courses, night course, and online course.

I am not sure if you are talking about those lame Phoenix University things or not but do not do that. My managerial finance teacher said most colleges do not accept credits from places like that and companies won't even look at your resume if you put that on there.

As far as online courses like I am doing..I have a hard time with them because i put things off and have to play catch up. I am taking a professional writing class online that isnt too bad.

Night courses can be killer because they are usually once a week and nearly 3 hours long. You can luck out most of the time though because the teacher has the "i dont want to be here either" attitude and you usally get out early or they are really easy on you because they know you work all day. I have an easier time with regular mon, wed, fri courses in the morning for 50 min. or something along those lines. Plus at night you are usually stuck with old people and morning classes have all the hotties lol.

Anyway that is my :2cents:

It was nice for me so I could keep my summer job (work at a golf course) and still get full time and have time for school. I liked them so much I'm keeping it that way for winter, even though I could take day classes.

I forgot about this also... It is VERY true that professors usually take it easier on you and tend to enjoy evening students more. Most people in these courses work all day so they know you are a hard worker and are putting time in, etc. etc.

I took an online class my last semester of college. I had to take sociology and I couldnt fit it in my schedule and they offered an online one. Its kind of a pain in the beginning setting everything up and all that, but its smooth sailing after that.

my brother had an online history class last semester, he said it was that hardest class he ever took. the prof, gave so much additional reading to the students it was un-godly. he showed me one of his weekly assignments and i almost shit myself, it was easily 150 pages of reading for one week plus a online quiz every mon. and weds. this guy was insane, i guess he thought since they weren't in class he could do whatever he wanted. what a f-ing boner....:salook:

My wife took some online computer skill courses, like excel, access, powerpoint, etc. And it really paid off, cause it was the deciding factor of her new job. She bidded on a administrator's job for the tool crib for the whole factory.( we both work at an automotive supplier facility). She got it cause her computer skills were exactly what is needed to keep the inventory levels where the need to be. Sure you can train someone to do all that but she already new the programs..
She almost makes as much as me now. :ohsnap:

Anyway, online courses are good, if you want to advance at your current occupation. Knowledge is power, no matter how you get it..

ratemyprofessor.com is a great website. I use it to look at my possible teachers. For instance, I used it to check on my Math course. I didn't schedule for one because other student's said he was almost impossible to understand because he was Indian.

I'm taking a course online right now (HS) and just about failing it..I just hate it, I don't want to look at a pc screen and actually have to think about something I don't want to, lol

I'll probably retake it and get it done right this time..

I'm doing the rest of my degree online. I'm going to Academy of Art University in San Francisco. All the classes I'm taking are fully online. No going to school once a month or whatever. I love it, but then again, my classes are actually fun.

if you go to a major university don't think that everything is going to work out that nicely... classes fill up fast and if your just starting college you get the last selection. My classes are all over the place 9-9:50, 11-11:50, 2-3:40, 7-8:40

im takin all my classes from home right now at community college. goin pretty good since theyre all of my Gen Ed classes and theyre not hard. once i get around to harder classes ill start taking those on campus so i get the benefit of being there to ask the prof questions/interacting with people.

taking classes from home gives me more time, but it also gives me time to slack off. i didnt start work for my classes til mid october this semester, and to say the least, ITS CRUNCH TIME!

Yeah thats the hardest part about online classes. You have to motivate yourself to get the work done on-time. It's defanitely hard working full-time and trying to go to school full-time. It's very hard to fit classes in there when you need to because the times don't always fit well.

yep thats the exact situation im in. i have to work or else i cant drive, and if i cant drive i have no money, no money, no school. one biiiiiiiig web of crap!
