Anyone do Web Hosting and/or Design?
 

First off, does anyone know of a good place to get a "www .com" for cheap, or even free?

And does anyone know or use a free web hosting server that is very good and doesn't have to much crap tagged at the end of the URL?

I do website design/setup, not for free tho

My bro-in-law is a designer, damn good one from what I know. Had two houses before he was 30. He's gonna do one fore me, but I was looking at one for myself to try.

99.9% of all 'free' web hosting has a bandwidth limit which is set VERY low. I know that Geocities has some pretty decent hosting for fairly cheap and you can get a www.com, or .net.

Just :google: and see what you can come up with, web hosting has gotten really cheap lately.

I have one or two friends that can provide webhosting, I beleive.

I thought most free ones, such as geocities, has a name something like... www.insertname.com/geocities

That's how most are, I'm trying to find a free or very cheap one time payment www.insertname.com domain. I've found quite a few one page sites for $5 a month.

From everything that I've seen you can get the domain name for a one time fee, but you will have to pay monthly/ yearly for the hosting, usually monthly.

@ Geocities, you can get a www.--blahblah--.com or .net..
For instance Geocities has a special right now:
$8.96/mo (first 2mo- $11.96 after), no setup fee, domain name included, 5,000mb space, 200gb's data transfer (bandwidth), 200 e-mail addresses... etc. etc. etc.....

Yea theres a ton of places ranging from $5-15 a month. I only need like 2 pages, really I could settle with just one. One page would before and after pictures, and the other would be for prices, info, background, etc. etc. So not a lot of space is needed.

If you have DSL or cable you can host it yourself. call up chas at www.juicypop.com and tell him colin sent you. He'll hook you up with any hosting you need. He can do web design and all that jazz too.

I use http://www.1and1.com and made this website http://www.shermanmachine.com

They have a lot of layout already made you just fill in the blanks and add pictures. That’s what I did.

1&1 is looking good for me.

I don't know to get the beginner hosting package ($2.99 mo.) or home package ($5.99 mo.).

If you want a message board make sure the package you get has that option.
