possibly a new toy!
well the guy down the street from me is selling a Blue/White Suzuki GSX-r 600, Its looks to be late 90's around 99ish... I havent stopped to take a look at it but i drive by it everyday for work and been meaning to stop and get the number.. hopefully I can jew him down on whatever it is and get it for short money since the winters coming.. My question is how much these bikes go for and whats a high + low mileage for these bikes and is there anything inparticular to be looking at when purchasing a bike? I need a new toy for the summer so I can switch between the stang and the bike! let me know thanks!

youll have to know some info on the bike. look to see if its been "stunted" which is doing cycle tricks. look for scrapes on the farings, and cracks on the frame. look for frame sliders and condition of the tires. |
Had about 8 people in my neighborhood die this year because of those things.
good luck. |

good luck. Just be careful, and look for a small bike to start out on if you haven't had one before. 600cc or so seems to be where most people start out.. Check into some of your local community colleges or driving schools, alot of places do driving lessons with supplied bikes for around $300 and you will get big insurance discounts by taking the course. |

For the most part people die on motorcycles by being inexperienced, or just plain stupid. Yes, there are other accidents that happen due to people not knowing how to drive and running them over at stop lights/ stop signs. :hittingthefan:

yah. most of the people who died in littleton this year on bikes were being dumb. I think it is just too much temptation to act stupid. lol......
It's the same with sports cars, really.. I mean someone posted a news report about a mustang being chopped in half a month or so ago, because an inexperienced kid was driving and trying to show off to his friend in a Camaro. People just need to learn how to drive, and if you're going to street race, or hot-rod around, do it somewhere where you're not putting other people in danger.. That way, when you wreck you'll only kill yourself! :breakdancesmilie: |
I have been debating off and on for the last few years about getting a bike. People in Pensacola drive like complete morons so it scares me to get one.
People here get hurt or killed a lot on bikes. I know it is hard to see them, but I bet 95% of the time when I see them, the person is acting like an idiot. Darting through traffic, wheelies down the interstate, ridding right on someones back bumper...usually mine. If you get one just be careful man. There are a lot of idiots in cars, trucks, and on bikes out there. If you have a friend with a bike try to ride together or find someone else in traffic to tag up with. Let us know how it goes. |
i drove an Yamaha R1...it was owned by one of my uncles motorcycle buddies...the thing i purely amazing and it is stupid powerful...i lifted the freaking wheels 1st gear, 2nd gear and if u gun it in third...it lifts up by itself then sets back down...
when i purchas my bike im deff. gonna get teh suzuki GSX750...ive driven an R6 too..that just pulled the tires up to 2nd gear... if its ur first bike then go w/ a 400 or 500 sport/cruiser type bike for like 500 then jump into the Super sport bikes....ive driven dirtbikes all my life and a tried street bikes a few time (obviously)....and to tell you the truth...if i didnt know shit on how to drive a bike...i would be ****ing my pants and would probably drop the $13k bike... and dont be stupid and do like 185+mph....that rediculous...i say keep it under 70....that way you at least have a chance to survive a fall... edit: just to give you an outlook on the R1..it has 180hp and does the 1/4 mile in 8.5-9.5 secs at ~150mph stock |

I'm on the same boat you're on dude...:)

ya i know its very dangerous.. my dad owns a harley and when he takes his bike out he goes straight to newhampshire/vermont the country, and drives there to get away from the idiots around the city.. i've driven bikes all my life at my summer house with a dirt bike and a little 125 yamaha so i know how to drive but its not always your fault theres a lot of idiots on the road and i just know if i get a bike i have to be extra careful, and i wont attempt to do the stupid tricks unless its like a parking lot or someshit.. so im going to talk it over with my dad take a look at it and ill update you guys! hopefully with some pics attachted!
|
*UPDATE* ok guys got some info on the bike let me know what you think... its a 1998 Suzuki GSX-R 600 with 7000 miles on it.. its been dropped once minor damage and he had a piece painted because he had his GF's named painted on it and had that part repainted.. and he wants $3500 for it.. im going to try an jew him down to around $3000 possibly.. my father and I are going to take it for a ride this weekend and see how it goes... o ya also its going to need some new rubber soon..
|

7,000 miles is avg for a bike, I heard on bikes 20,000 miles is alrealdy like 100,000 miles on cars. So 7,000 miles is not really "low" miles.
|
so what you guys think a good asking price would be for it? considering it has some body damage, needs new tires, its a 98 7k miles and he wants $3500..

Have you checked KBB? You can get a brand new Kawasaki 636 for like $7k around here, so $3k seems kinda steep to me.... Depends on what kinda shape the bike is in I guess.. If you said #2500 or so, that seems like it would be a better deal.. |
since it has been layed down or whatever+being a 98+7k miles I would honestly think 1800-2200. Plus you have to fork out money for tires

Although it does say that the avg mileage for a bike with 600cc is around 25k, which is BS.. I would offer him $2k and call it a day.. :nunu: |
hmm thanks for the research there.. when I go there saturday im going to say listen it needs new tires its been layed down.. and then just offer 2000-2200 for it and walk out and leave him my number..
|
well think of it this way. id offer him the book value after you consider replacing tires and fairing from being cracked.
|
well guys, I bought the bike! :) I took a look at it saturday morning and looked it over real good, needs new tires, has a couple scratchs here and there it needs a good cleaning its got after market Yoshimura exhaust, and some carbonfiber pieces. I told the guy the price was really high considering the condition of the bike.. and id give him $2000 and I left him my phone number.. he called me today and said it was mine so probably going to pick it up sometime this week.. and ill post some pics up ASAP!!! :) im going to put it in my basement this winter and work on it and get it buffed and ready for the summertime! cant wait!
