160 miles... what the hell

Car is at 160 miles from a full tank and ive used 3/4. what the **** is going on. i drive normal for the most part. that comes out to 13.5 miles per gallon. this is getting rediculous. I run 93 oct, car is a 5speed, and its outer city driving. it doesnt smell like its running rich, fuel filter was changed 2 months ago, tire pressure is always checked and ran at 32 psi, and i run full amsoil synthetics. Ive done like 4 seafoams through the gas, one through the upper engine, and one through oil case previously with my last oil change, not this current one. What the hells going on?

haha i have 4.10s and i get 20 mpg

i have all bolt-ons minus pullies which are gay, and a cold air intake which may gain me 3 hp if im lucky.

PureStang 08-28-2006 06:57 PM

thats about what i get....hmmm i get about 210-220 mpt

zigzaggthefag321 08-28-2006 06:59 PM

matt...dont feel bad..i get 180 per tank a lot. but one 50 or so mile cruise on the highway and im at 220-230 per tank.

madmatt 08-28-2006 07:08 PM

Matt, next tank, unplug the Xcal2. See if you are surprised. :) Dunno, just a hunch.

Also, thats not 13.5 mpg. You dont put 15 or whatever gallons in your car do you? I know when I fill up, its just over 12 gallons. You may be cutting yourself short.

Badfish 08-28-2006 07:10 PM

if i can drive a whole tank with little or no flooring it, i get close to 300 miles a tank

btw, i never got that good gas milage till i took my tune off. madmatt is right

the xcal2 is always unplugged. it doesnt stay plugged in. :kekekegay: to tell you the truth, im kind of scared on putting the stock tune on with a 3.90 gear. I have a fear that it runs lean because I think I already am with the mods i have. and yes I filled the car up untill it stopped on the pump.

4.6 Love 08-28-2006 07:22 PM

Sometimes i'm lucky if I get 225 a tank..

Badfish 08-28-2006 07:26 PM

your car wont run lean on 3.90s...im using 85, stock tune, 4.10s...and 300 miles a tank

Is'nt your speedo WAY off??

mustangvsix 08-28-2006 07:46 PM

maybe your gas needle just jumps around...i know mine does. it will stay on full for like 50miles then over the next 15mils just drop like a rock...

MattJ 08-28-2006 07:50 PM

of course its not going to run lean with gears. lol. ill see about my mpg after this tank is up. ill put it back to stock with 3.90s and see what it does. ill fill it up with 87 and go back to stock.

i can use the tuner to adjust the speedo, raise rev and speed limits, etc...without actually installing the tune

madmatt 08-28-2006 08:15 PM

Yes be sure to compensate for the gears.

TClark22 08-28-2006 08:21 PM

wow...it must be my tune as well even though its only a chip and i really cant take it out! because with my six i only get around 210miles per tank if i am lucky! and thats around 13-14 gallons of gas so around 15-16mpg...i suck

i have been trying to get good gas milage...like letting the auto shift at like 2k and not hitting the gas all too often and i still am getting ****ting gas milage...i just hit half a tank and the trip reads 100miles...:godamnit:

that does suck for a sixer...somethings wrong? ever have your car dyno'ed to see A/F? smell unburnt gas ever?

DarkSith 08-28-2006 08:29 PM

I have to say my GT's gas millage is only a little worse than my old V6's was, and I have 4.10's.

nah never dynoed...but i am looking to get blown so if that happens then it will be dynoed and tuned

96gtstang 08-28-2006 08:37 PM

i wanted to see what my gas milage was this tank so i topped it off and am just now at a lil below half a tank with 190 miles so far so ima have to say by the end of this tank if i should be around 300 miles and thats with me driving a little on the conservative side but still gettin on it quite a bit lol. the lowest mpg i have ever gotten is somthin like 24

btw im in 5th gear doin 30-35 with stock gears (not boggin the motor but not using alot of fuel)

ive got o/r x pipe and flows and air silencer removed

MattJ 08-28-2006 08:39 PM

im going to block off 1st and 3rd. ill only be able to shift from 2 to 4 to 5. lol

Badfish 08-28-2006 08:43 PM

dude...why? that means you have to alternate between lower and higher rpms rather than a medium.you waste way more gas like that..i shift at about 2500-3k and downshift at about 1700. most of the time i leave it in nuetral when comming to a stop

96gtstang 08-28-2006 08:45 PM

o ya and when im trying to get "good gas milage im shifter b4 2000 rpm try that out for bit

Cobra King 08-29-2006 12:37 AM

you need to cruise around more and not push the gas as much. A lot of times if you just stay at a current speed instead of accelerating to get fast everywhere you will get ****ty gas mileage.

Edit: Clean filter,plugs.

02LaserRedGT 08-29-2006 12:40 AM

I dont want to comment on my gas mileage when I had the auto & 4.10s. Let's just say it was...bad.

stanger00 08-29-2006 12:44 AM

if i can get 180 miles to 13 gallons of fuel, then there must be something wrong. that was the average tank for my car. i havent touched it in 4 months.

Shambles 08-29-2006 04:18 AM

I get around 18-20mpg with 4.10's City. Hardly any highway, and I pull off probably 220ish if I wound the tank the whole way down.

Shift low. With 4.10's I shift around 2k each shift until I hit 45 ish mph, which is around 2500rpm in 4th, at which case I hop into 5th.

MattJ 08-29-2006 06:49 AM

I shift at about 2500k. Plugs are new autolites and went in last year, but I know the filter could be replaced. its a k&n but im going to throw it away and buy a fram airhog. My k&n has seen better days, and is the problem for my MAF meter getting dirty and causing my engine to have a slight ping at high accelleration.
