Sfc's

I go in this Sat. to have my subframe connectors put in and my torque boxes and axle tubes welded....will I feel a difference in the car??

cobra1923 08-10-2006 04:39 PM

with the SFC you will definately feel a difference.... The biggest thing I noticed was when you bang the gears it won't kick out sideways like it used to, it will stay straight. It also feels more solid in turns and over bumps. The torque boxes I'm not so sure about. I welded them up on my '90 back in the day but it was for insurance (that they would stay in the car under launches). I don't recall feeling any different. What are you having done on the axle tubes?

I am having the axle tube connection points to the diff and other places welded more than they already are from the factory. I am having MPH do the work as they are a highly respected race shop with many many years of experience with this kind of stuff. Basically from what I understand the axle tube can be ripped off/open...whatever after very hard launching on drag slicks...now I dont race my car, but MPH suggested I do this "while he is gonna be under there anyway welding the SFC's" Just a little insurance as I see it..and hey...why not just git er done?? lol.

Good info....I hear you can tell the difference just when you shut the door....the car is way more stable....I totally need a mod that will keep me from going sideway when banging through the gears....let us know how it turns out cause I'm wanting to get rid or my stock SFC's and get full length MM's

so your car has sfc's stock?? mine doesnt :( but I am going with the powder coated MM full lengths and I will report any differences. I solved a bit of the "kick out" when bangin gears with the MM XD RLCAs...those puppies really stiffened up the rear end...big time. So, I bet these SFC's are gonna really make an even bigger difference that they would with stock everything else. so I figure with the Bilsteins/H&R Race springs/XD RLCA's and soon the SFC's...I'm gonna have a wicked corner carver as a DD!! should be fun!!

madmatt 08-10-2006 07:35 PM

Absolutely you will feel a huge difference. The stiffness of the car, just how, RIGID it feels after the MM sfl's is great. Good idea getting the axle tubes done, I wish I had. Its just something easy to do while you have them under there.

zigzaggthefag321 08-10-2006 07:47 PM

Im glad it will make a good bit of difference.

Really more happy to correct a few weak chassis areas that the car was born with.

todd03blown 08-10-2006 07:59 PM

Zig - what time will you be at MPH?

You need a sony psp dude! I take that thing everywhere I go! ha ha ha.......Yeah, mach's come with SFC's, but they are bolted on and are not full length so I'm not sure if they really do any good....probably better than nothing, but nothing like full length.

LOL...well since it has been retired to garage duty the last 2 months it has been nice to have to clean that car all the time so I am getting a break from it:D not to mention with how quickly these pop-up storms happen the last thing I want to do is get my car caught in a rain storm. I like just going into the garage and seeing it all nice and shiney:D. If I come over I will give you a quick ride in it:beerchug:

vertstang232 08-11-2006 09:56 AM

i want to know how much of a difference it is to go from the factory ones on a convertible to full length MM subframes connectors

In a convertible you will feel a world of difference by adding the full length MM SFC's; it would be like going from a yugo to a mustang GT/cobra from a power perspective. The chassis is so much more stiff, reduces the creaks and noises and just makes it feel so much more solid than compared to stock.

A TON of difference, especially on a vert! I had an 03 GT vert and I never did the MM SFC mod, but it should have been one of the first things i did.

I'm with you on that! My car came with the same crappy factory SFC's and I'm not sure they really do anything.
