anybody have fuel gauge issues?

my mustang is an 06 pony package with about 7200 miles on it, the other day my fuel gauge stopped working. I called the dealership right away and made an appointment, and was able to get by using the trip computer untill then. i dropped it off monday and they were finally finished today. So they bring my car around and the tech hands me my keys. I go to start the car and the gas gauge DOESN'T MOVE. I went back in and told them it was still broken and they said it was a sulfur issue(california gas has more sulfur and its gay) and to run a bottle of techron through it(the plain additive, not the gas with techron in it) and if it didn't start working normally within a tank to bring it back again. I was so pissed, i'm gonna go gas up and try the techron tommorow, hopefully it will fix it or I will be back at ford again next week.

What really made me mad was when they asked if i had been putting cheap gas in it. i said no i've only ever put arco in it because thats what the manual and sticker on the gas tank say.

anyway thats my rant, and has anyone else with newer (or older) mustangs ever had this issue?

Edit: not sure if this is the right section, as it is mostly rant with a question at the end. plus I think more people read the lounge anyway.

wtf!!! i would have told them to fill up my gas tank...they said that the "fixed the problem"..you paid..then gave u the keys to only see that it still doesnt work? thats bs

well it was a warranty repair, so I didn't pay. they say it could have been a bum batch of gas. if the techron doesn't fix it I will definitely be back there.

The gas guage in my dads 73 just sits at half all the time. But i think we are getting that fixed when the engine gets a rebuild this winter.

rele iu ahve that issue too but but opposite i keep driving and driving and it never goes down till like 400miles weird:beerchug:

it's supposed to be sulfur buildup on the sensor that moves the gauge, the other reason I wasn't worried about it is that the trip computer sensor seems to be working, as it still shows my miles to empty. Didn't do the techron today, I will try it tommorow.

I have no answer or even a clue of how sulfer build up works, but I've really never heard of this problem in new cars...although just cause I haven't heard of it doesn't mean anything, but it sounds like the Ford techs are being lazy azz biiiiiiaaaaatches again.

Codiddy 08-11-2006 01:38 PM

yeah not to mention they scratched it too!! ford techs suck!
