People get raped on insurance in some places!

I have a friend with a 1999 Explorer in Brooklyn NY. He pays $548 per month for insurance and has a clean record.

If I lived somewhere where insurance is that high, I would move. I have three cars, a boat, a house, and an umbrella policy for 60% of what he pays.

WTF???? How can it be so high? I'd shoot myself if i had to pay that..:eek:

Everything is expensive in NYC... but, the average wages are a LOT higher in nyc than anywhere else. this comes as no surprise to me.

people from new york come down here all the time to invest in property since it is "so cheap" even though houses start at $500,000 and go up to a million for a regular single family home. for most people thats a lot of money but its nothing for them. I just bought property in greenville, sc. for $30,000 and i thought it was cheap but the people in the area thought that was expensive.

that's just crazy.....I live in the second most expensive area in the nation, second to NYC/Manhattan and it's nothing like that here.....It almost makes me think there is more to the story.....I know of people who were busted for DUI's, and in Cali they don't just slap you on the wrist and they aren't even paying close to that in insurance per month......hmmmm maybe his homeowners insurance is included or something? Who knows, but that's just insane.

That can't be the price for one month. Thats crazy. If it is, then NYC sucks ass.

Home insurance rates are going up again in FL for some policy holders this despite that the insurance industry has recorded the highest profits ever.

Isn't that just crap! Someone needs to put a stop to that.....I know in Cali your car insurance rate is based on what zip code you live in regardless of your record. So if you live in what is seen as a high crime area and have never filed a claim or recieved a ticket your insurance is going to be higher than a person in a lower crime area with the same record. It's criminal if you ask me!

As a New Yorker now living in NC, I can tell you his rates don't come as a surprise to me. Heck, just a few years ago when I lived there, basic liability on a 20 year old car was $1,400 a year. I paid more for insurance than the car was worth. :wallbash:

I suppose the accident rate in New York is pretty high in the city wether you are liable for the accident or not.

Sure, wages are higher in NYC, but they don't off-set the cost of liveing completely. The persone in question gets paid $25/hour for a job that pays about $14/hr here. His insurance is $548 per month in NYC, bt would only be abour $65/month here. He shares a house in NYC, where he could own his own place here.

People either live in the city because they like it or just don't know any better.

I have a friend who currently lives in NJ. He is selling his house and paying cash for a place in KY. The NJ house is 1300 square feet and his neighbors are "questionable". His brand-new house in KY is 3100 square feet and on 16 acres and is 40% cheaper.

He is able to pay cash for the place to. So, while he hates living in NJ, at the same time, he loves what living there has done for his future.

I live in the city because I would hate not living next to a lot of people. Dude your friend's insurance is way to high, I have a 2001 cobra mustang and I am 20 and I pay 886 every 6 months.

I agree it doesnt completely off-set the cost of living... I was just stating that $548 a month there isnt the same as paying $548 anywhere else. they make more money because their bills are a lot higher. but then again a lot of jobs there completely off-set the cost of living. he's actually towards the bottom of that pay scale if he's making $25 an hour in a place as expensive as NYC
