fwd tranny
 

i may be replacing the tranny on a 99 kia sephia---has anyone on here ever replaced the transmission on a fwd car..im pretty sure you have to pull the motor to do it... ive helped on doing a clutch on a rwd car and ya thats no biggie but its also a totally different setup never really worked underneath a fwd 4 cyl. car....anything i should know before i get to deep into this project.

i have never pulled a motor to get the tranny out of a fwd car...you need to take off the front wheels and lock the steering wheel..then take out the half shafts from the transmission, take off the starter motor and unbolt the transmission mounts and transmission...then bang it w/ a pretty big rubber mallat to get the sealant/gasket to give a lil..then just wiggle it out..but make sure not to kill the shaft that is in the tranny that goes to the engine, and its also a pain to realign too...

before u do all this...its smart to have 2 hydrolic jacks...1 to support the motor and 1 to support the transmission..it also makes it easier to lower the transmission instead of breaking your back bending over the engine bay to set the tranny down...50-60 is extremely heavy when working streached out over an engine bay..also take your time

the reason i used a mallat is cause hondabond (i think thats wat its called) is some tough sh!t...

You can actually get away with only needing 1 jack...to lower the tranny out, but they arent that heavy anyhow. You can take the tranny mount loose and let the engine sag down on that side, the other 3 mounts (front/rear/side) will support it. It's about a 2-3 hour job if your using basic handtools. Theres no sense in banging it with a Mallet, they have 2 maybe 3 machined studs and the tranny will have to be slid off evenly. At the most you will need a prybar/flat screw driver to pry it loose from the block...no gaskets on a kia there.

alright now that doesnt sound as bad as i was figuring---and the cool thing about this is that someone else already took the tranny out but diddnt finish the job i just have to put the new one in
