immigration protest!
 

I don't want to start a political debate with this thread, but do any of you live in a major city where there's a immigration protest/march going on? I work in downtown Oakland, CA and it's just a freaking mess outside. There must be a wall 5 miles long of people marching through the streets.

The funniest thing I witnessed was a car full of guys and girls "ghost riding the whip". It was funny. For those don't know what that is here is a video:

Whats the deal behind this immigration thing anyways?Are the protesters legal or illegal?

If illegal, this is the opportunity to scoop em all up in mass and ship em out. LOL.

Hell, i dont care if somone wants to come over to the US its a great place, come on over! but if yer gonna luive in MY country you better as hell be legal and PAYING TAXES. This aint no soup kitchen! this aint no free ride! I gotta pay taxes then they do too! None of this low paying under the radar crap.

Did you know they recently published a spanish version of the Star Spangled Banner????? I Couldnt ****ing believe it. AMERICANS SPEAK AMERICAN! NOT SPANISH!!!!!!! I mean seriously, if i go to mexico to live they expect to learn spanish. They should return the favor.

I think there is a mix of legal/illegal immagrants protesting. I think one of the main reasons they are protesting is a piece of legislation that was introduced in the House of Representatives that would make it a felony to be here illegally. That's kind of what sparked it I think.

Maybe not but you don't see thing's in German,French,Russian,etx.

They are all legal immigrant's that don't expect everyone else to learn thier language.They learn to speak english.

And if somone comes to america, THEY NEED TO LEARN TO SPEAK AMERICAN.

That is why Spanish is an elective class, not a required class. English is our national language, the declaration of independance was in english, the star spangled banner (untill recently) was in english. All the roadsigns, legal documents, and laws were written in english. we have been speaking english since we took this mother****er from the native americans. that wasnt right, but here we are, and english is the national language.

or do you wanna find me a spanish version of the declaration of independance that was written in a different language in the US at the time the origional was made?

if you want to get technical, we have no defined language. although i disagree with that, and think it should be a law to know english in this country....you dont have to, and America has no official language..look it up...trust me I had to write a 10 page paper on this ****

Ok, strict terms, you are correct. There is no law stating you MUST speak english, nor would that be a law that makes sence. But realistically, english is the language of america.

My whole thing is this, You dont like your country. You want to live in our country and have all the freedoms and benefits of this country, then have enough respect for this country and the people in it and learn the native language that 98% of americans speak.

Its about respect. Plus, you will not be able to take full advantage of everything this wonderful country has to offer, or have as much fun if you dont speak the native language. if somone immigrates over to america and they dont have enough respect for this country to learn the local language and/or are too lazy to learn it, then dont expect us to accomodate you. And honestly, if they are not respectful enough or too lazy to learn the language, then what are they really bringing to the table?

Why come over here and clean toilets or be a roofer when you can gain citizenshiop, go to the university, get a degree, and make a real living and enjoy the contry to the fullest.

There is a guy i work with from Niger, he was born in EXTREME poverty and was seriously one of those kids you see on the bleeding heart Sally Struthers dollar a day to feed kids. You got the picture.
This guy managed to immigrate to our country, and had enough respect to learn our language and really took advantage of his opportunity. He is now one of our Cisco engineers and probably banks 70k a year.

That guy overcame more obsticals than most people know exist. He had the respect to take advantage of what america has to offer. Not once did he ever think "they should learn my language".

haha I 100% completley agree with you...my uncle, who is *sigh* columbian (lol, he's cool tho unlike grimmz :D) speaks perfect english, and he lives near miami. everytime he walks into a store and the person can only speak cuban or some other spanish, my uncle FLIPS THE F*CK OUT! it's pretty cool to see someone do that who isn't originally from here :)

They had a protest on my campus today. It was pretty pitiful and extremely annoying. I have no problem with people legally living here and not causing problems. I heard something about throwing all the illegal people in prison. They better not do that. Then we're still paying for them and that's the last thing we would need.

well, whatever your belief is I'm pretty sure sending all the illegal's to jail with a felony is not the answer to the problem.

I would also remind people that all of our families were probably immigrants to this country at some point in history......Yeah, times were different (no terrorism) and our families may or may not have done it by the book and according to laws, but don't forget. I do agree that people who want to come to this country and live the American Dream they should try to assimliate as much as possible to our culture, but be able to preserve their own.

yeah i live in El Paso TX its a major border city and yeah there is some kind of mayhem here we have poeple blocking the bridge to cross to mexico.
as for the whole prostest thing most of this would blow over if the U.S would grant amnasty and just let the illegals curently in the sates go home so that they can have a chanse to be able to live in the states legaly

A small protest here in Dayton, OH, nothing major that I know of.

The big reason why the protest is going on (at least the reason round here) is too show that if all immigrants stopped going to school/work/and something else important... basically do nothing today and boycott... their trying to show americans how much the economy is dependant on them or something. Supposedly they think our economy will basically crash if they were not here, HA!

Many of them are good people... they come to america illegally but they have darn good reasons for it.... Many of em come here to work their asses off at cheap ass pay just to bring money back home to their families... They're people too...

Not to mention that they do all the jobs that americans either dont wanna do or are too lazy to do (lazy people are generally fat)(i dont know why i put thta in there)(yes they most certainly are fat ****s)

Some of them, however, over stay their welcome... they want government benefits such as welfare (bullcrap for lazy people), unemplyeement (very often also bullcrap for lazy people... who are fat), and social security...

They also like their kids to go to school here... which is a :nono:

They even sometimes argue with our laws... in a language other then english...

Reason why I had to take 2 semesters on Spanish in high school... and why when i call a 1-800 number the first thing I hear is spanish and the last english... WTF...

They also push for them to have equal rights when they most certainly arent "equal" since the dont pay taxes and as far as the USA knows dont even exsist!

Yet... as bad as they are most Americans are worse but that is somewhat of a different topic...
