Handshakes

What is up with these damn handshakes these days? Its like you have to know someone personally to greet them properly. I dont like the pound or the high five. The handshake with the chest bump is gay. It seems stupid to give some one five, then snap your fingers and point at them. Or the super firm grip to show your masculinity. WTF happened to just shaking someones hand.

Do you just shake hands or what?

In a professional situation, a firm (not bone cruncher, and not limp eerie type) handshake is a must. When your with your homies, whatever LOL :poke:

Sorry back on track now. I totally agree.

When i first meet someone, its firm(look a person in his eyes)shake. Later on it might be whatever we have become a custom to.

Thats why you don't give 'high-fives'

The hand-shake I never give, and hate to recieve, especially if it's from someone I'm meeting for the first time, is where you do the "normal" Palm-to-Palm grasp, but then they come out with the other hand, and put it on the outside of your hand, so that they essentially have your hand in-between both of theirs.:nono: I've always hated that.

Scratch your ass as you are walking up to someone. See how eager they are to shake it then. :)

I shake peoples hands at work all the time, I usually just do a slightly firm quick shake. I'll shake my friends hands sometimes.. but usually its all light and casual I guess and more of a playful thing than anything.

Last time I high fived someone was after a baseball or softball game. I always just shake normal with no super strength or anything but from time to time I come across someone that wants to change it up with the "shake once, slide back, and finger lock". If someone tries to do something wierd I try to do it as best as I can so we don't look like idiots trying to figure out what one or the other is doing.

Scenario: You walk into a car dealership. You notice a salesman finalizing a sale and shakes the customer hand. The customer leaves with keys and papers in hand. The same salesman approaches you and knuckles up for a pound. Would you give a pound or tell him i rather shake? Knowing you guys, yall would probably be so excited to get a new car you wouldnt give a ****.

Maybe i am overreacting but handshakes are personal. You cant just walk up to someone you just met and expect some kind palm sliding, knuckle, high- three, Royal Order of Waterbuffalo handshake.

If it's your first time seeing/meeting the salesman, he should be he one not doinf anything other than your "normal/classic" handshake. As informal as it may be, this is still ultimately a business meeting between him and you, and should be given the proper business ettiquette and decorum. But, I wouldn't tell him anything other than my name, as I stuck my hand out for an actual hand-shake. Hopefully he would take the hint.

If however this is the 4th car you're buying from this salesman and you know each other well enough, personally, I could let a "knuckle-pound" slide, but I still think that anything even remotely business or transaction related, should have a certain level of decorum, and a "knuckle-pound" ins't up to that level.

On a side note, if I were seriously looking for a new car, and that's the first time greeting I get from a salesman, it will also be the last time greeting for that salesman, as I politely wait for the other salesman at the desk next to his, to finish up with the customer he has.

me and my black freind (the one of like 4 that go to my school) we do a thing, it's more of a joke but its funny

you make a dog with your right hand (middle and ring fingers touch thumb, pinky and index stay up)

we both do that, and say "where do the dogs go?" "POUND" (simoultaniously pounding our fists together)

hahahaha its so funny

m0nkeh 04-26-2006 10:18 AM

Either a basic palm palm 1 shake, or with friends, just slap hands or a high five (tho it gives cancer..says the cartoon..lol)

Proper Handshake = Arm slightly outstretched and bent at Elbow. Reach other hand untill thumb webbing mets thumb webbing. Firm grip like yer holding a golf club, Pump twice then release.

Me and my buddys usually do the normal handshake but follow up with the knuckling. Nice and easy.

the WORST are the dudes where you shake thier hand and they dont go all the way, ending up in you holding thier fingers and way gentle. Like you shake a womans hand.... uhghh.... always makes me wanna wash my hands right afterwards.
