did you feel a difference?

today i decided to spend the big bucks and put 93 octane in my 02 gt and on the way home from work i ripped it and i thought that it was maybe a little quicker but then agian that could just be because i spent 2.90 a gallon

if any of you have tried 93 did you think it was a little quicker?

Unless you are tuned for it.It won't make that big of a difference.

I tried 93 a few times in my stock GT, thinking it would burn quicker, making more HP, I couldn't tell a difference. Doesn't higher octane mean your burning fuel faster?? Like racing fuel? I remember you could buy 105 octane gas at certain stations back in the day.

But your engine needs to be tuned for it, otherwise it's not using it any differently right?... I put plus once in my 6 banger and didn't notice any difference...

add a little timing and i bet you could feel it lol

yeah idk i wish it were that easy just buy some better gas and add like 50 horsepower oh man thatd be sweet ahahah

You have it backwards. The higher the octane, the slower it burns.

jlt2006 04-16-2006 07:19 AM

The way it was explained to me was: :bash:
The higher octane burns hotter thus creating a larger explosion in the cylinder thus creating more power. :beerchug:
The newer chips can have more than one tune on them.
One for everyday 87 octane and one for 93 and another for 104 and the last you can use for NOS plus the 104 or 93.

They make switchs you can use to change the tune from inside the car without having to use the tuner each time.

So it burns down to, if your not tuned for 93, you dont get all the possible benefits of burning it. :wallbash:

Mine is currently tuned for 93 only. Hope to get a new chip soon.

I'm pretty sure it burns slower and a bit cooler. That is the reason if you run a blower you need to run 93 octane so the heat doesnt make your engine start to detonate. Dont waste your money on 93 octane unless you have detonation or your running a blower.

i recently just started to put 91 octane cuz i couldnt find 93 and i felt a difference but then again i dont have any computer things to worry about

csledd 04-16-2006 09:05 AM

I noticed a pretty good difference.. but I didn't start using it until I got tuned for it ;)

higher octane doesnt make more power all it does it help control detonation.
it doesnt make anymore hp at all. its all in your head.

:stupid: octane rating it the ability to withstand detonation.

screw this high octane stuff. im going to get my sct xcal 2 back out and get a 87 tune thats great on gas consumption. 93 sucks now...

matrixpuba 04-16-2006 10:40 AM

im glad i bought a 93 notch with a 4 banger and auto 2 weeks ago. best part is the origanal owner ordered the car with 3:73 gears. i drove from nashville to memphis and back on 3/4 of a tank of 87 oct yesterday
