Allright, my car is slow. i admit it.

So i really gotta do something about it.

Im thinking supercharger, but i dont wanna break the bank.

I went through Ebay, but didnt see anything that looked like a complete set.

Anyone know where i can get an s/c for under 2k? Used is ok, just want to know i am getting all the parts.

That lexus is annoying the crap out of me, and that little ugly monkey mattj isnt making it better. i need more speed!

Anyone? Under 2k? Used? Links? Anything? I'll order that bitch up right now dammit!

Badfish 03-17-2006 06:07 PM

as nice as that would be...not gonna happen....its about 3k for a used kit, and 4 for a new one

It can happen. I almost had one for 1k last summer. He got it for under 2k.
Just gotta keep an eye out and look around.

And i just saw pricing for a new vortech, 3.5k is what they are going for online....

i guess with the 05's coming out the price dropped, i remember a year ago they were about 4,500

Jack The Ripper 03-17-2006 06:12 PM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VORTE...46336042QQrdZ1

see, this is getting around what im lookin for. about 2,500 for a new vortech V1-s or V2-SQ 1999-2004 4.6l mustang.

Badfish 03-17-2006 06:20 PM

then buy it

I went through this search for months and eventually boiuught a slightly used blower.

The ONLY thing you will find for that cheap is CRAP unless you get really lucky. I did see a few leaking Prochargers for $2500.

Also, those really nice looking good deals on Vortech, usually do not include anything. Remember, you need a fuel pump or at least a fuel management sysyem, injectors, chip, MAF, dyno tune etc...

If you were really patient, I am sure you could piece together a system for under $2,000 by getting used parts at various places.

But, look at it this way, I git a really nice Paxton used, still under warrenty, with an I/C, injectors, BOV etc... for $3500.

Icefreezen 03-17-2006 08:57 PM

Nitrous.........lol...thats my solution and i'm sticking to it

In my opinion, the best idea for you right now. Try it, if you dont like it, keep it til you save up the money for a blower. Also, dont let getting beat by a Lexus make you spend 4 grand, there is ALWAYS a faster car out there.

whitethunder46 03-17-2006 09:30 PM

You can buy a brand new vortech tuner kit for under 2,500. 42#'s for 250, fuel pump 90, lmaf 80, retune 150.
total: 3,100K before install

Thats before gauges if you decided to get them as well.

the only year mustangs needed a FMU were the 96-98 mustangs. you can also use a boost a pump with the stock fuel pump when you get the charger.

venom 03-15-2007 05:26 AM

So it was you I beat :boink: . What I have noticed is that every year cars have more HP. The IS and GS are pretty quick, now ifs its 3 or 5 series BMW thats not a problem lol. Im going to take my GS to a dyno to see what it does. If someone beats you Jack its becuase they spent more money than you. I would buy a new kit or used from a known seller. I have low comp pistons so IM running a bit low on hp, hopefully soon that will all change. Just be patient and save up a bit more for something worth while.

mcmmotorsports 03-15-2007 06:10 AM

I ended up selling my setup for $1,800 minus the tune and fuel pump. http://www.mcmmotorsports.com/smilies/sulk.gif

MattJ 03-15-2007 06:58 AM

haha, told you that thing is slow!

only 1200, there was a guy on here that made about 400 with that SC

00blkstanggt 03-15-2007 09:53 AM

I would probably jump all over that since i have $1200 sitting around, but too bad I gotta get something else first. Damn.

RedMustangGuy 03-15-2007 12:10 PM

99% of the time you will get what you paid for. spend $4 grand on a s/c installed and tuned at a reputable place, and you're looking at a reliable extra 120 rwhp. But if you buy a $2,000 used kit and go cheap on the install, you're asking for it.

wnracing 04-03-2007 01:50 AM

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT JACK NEEDS!!!

SPAMTASTIC!!!!

Not true, I had less than $2,000 in mine and 12 months/15,000 miles with NO problems. Would still be going strong if I didn't sell it to help fund my racing addiction. :shakeno:

Holy resurrected 1 year dead thread batman.

seeing as how im moving my pregnant girlfriend in with me in a couple weeks, i doubt my mustang will get any faster any time soon.

lol

Piledriver 04-10-2007 08:34 PM

Hey bro, it ain't gonna happen for $2000, let alone 3 or 4.

If you want one you gotta pay for it.
Don't you have a credit card?
I just had my Novi 2000 installed, $5500.
I know that sounds like a lot, but I live in the NYC Metro area, everything cost more here. But like I said, I wanted one, so I paid for it.
Chris Winters from Crazy Horse Racing in S. Amboy did the work, he's a real pro, does a lot of tech articles for MM&FF magazine.
The man got it to put out 411 rwhp, 386lbft torque.
Thats damn near 500hp at the motor, and we're not even completely finished tuning it yet!!!
I've had my car for 4 years now, and to all you guys who are just starting out, forget about all those boltons that don't do a lot, I dumped more than 5K into my car before I saw the light and had her supercherged.

If I had to do it all over again this is what I'd do.... S/C, gears, subs because I have a vert, exhaust and and aftermarket shifter.
The rest of the stuff is just gravy.

MattJ 04-10-2007 09:18 PM

Why retune a stock block thats over 400 rwhp? You are ASKING for trouble.

You might want to start at doing internals or youll be putting a new motor on that credit card of yours. Eh, youll figure it out when you have chunks of piston shooting around in your engine. lol

Not really my friend. The car runs fine up to about 5700rpm, that's when the A/F ratio jumps from 11.5-1 to 13.5-1. Of course that's too high, the reason being the MAF is pegged at that rpm.
We are installing a new MAF to address that problem, so when it's all said and done, I will be making 400+ SAFE horsepower.
As I said before, the man knows what he's doing, and with a perfect tune and mature, knowledgable driving, the stock internals can handle more then the oft quoted 400rwhp.
I have full confidence in Chris, but I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks for your input.
For the record, I've been around awhile, I will be 53 in 8 weeks, I remember the old days when all you needed to pull a head was socket set and about an hours work.
Now you can't even see the head, let alone pull before taking off a couple dozen emission and vacuum devices first... oh those were the days!
Take care.

PureStang 04-11-2007 03:35 AM

400-420 rear wheel horsepower is the limit on the stock block. i have no doubt that the TUNE is a safe one but the crank, rods, and pistons cannot take that kind of beating. i agree with mattj
