Nissan 240SX

Yo,

A buddy of mine just got a stock 1992 Nissan 240SX, and keeps getting in my face about how in... 2 months my little stock mustang isn't going to beat his 4 cyllinder SX and what not.

Now I'm not a racer in all respects, and I only just, kick it in on the sideroads. But does anyone know the potential that a 240SX has, and should a 2000+ GT have any trouble with it?

dannyb785 03-14-2006 12:53 PM

When I had a 92 ford taurus, I raced a 1990 5 spd 240sx and beat the guy...that should tell you that unless it's modified, it aint crap.

Milos 03-14-2006 12:54 PM

But once the modifications come on?

dannyb785 03-14-2006 12:55 PM

I cant imagine a 4 banger really getting mch faster with a few bolt on's. I mean, with our GT stangs, we get like, 10hp max from a CAI and with an xpipe/catback combo so if uyou half the amount of cylinders, he'd hafta have some heavy mods(headers, gears, etc) to compete

dannyb785 03-14-2006 12:58 PM

go here

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

it lists a 91 240sx running a 16.1 at best and I'm pretty sure your v6(stick with good driver) runs high 15's. But I'm not sure exactly. This website doesnt list times for your stang

whitethunder46 03-14-2006 01:11 PM

I'm confused, why you asking if a V8 can hang with it, don't u have a v6?

mustangV6_04 03-14-2006 02:29 PM

They are pretty quick. My friend has a 95 240SX SE and all it has is a pipe and i gave me a hell of a run but in the end i came up on top. Those cars have decent horsepower, 150-155hp to be exact and weigh next to nothing. Where I live they're pretty popular, three of my friends have them.

I know it can't hang with a V6 modified, so thats why I threw in the V8.

The advantage of 4 bangers are they are light. Even with alot less hp they have the potential to be quicker then are sixers and even v8 stangs.

Ghostalker 03-14-2006 06:40 PM

I could go on and on about the differences between the cars... but i will just take a line i got from my father.

When people modify these cars, no matter what they do, it will still be an import, in this case a piece 240. When you have a mustang, that is the least it will EVER be, no matter what you do.

PS. Those things have 150 horsies, and only 160 lb/ft...
funny to watch them light up the tires with that, many fail ='(

Jack The Ripper 03-14-2006 06:55 PM

Yah dude, a stock GT would make that 240 its bitch without breaking a sweat.

I dont know what few boltons he has that would make it enough to beat a GT, but hopefully this guy isnt just waiting for the 10 turbonators he bought to arrive. LOL

bullsh*t, my buddy had a 91 240sx and we used to smear fox bodies and 99-04 mustangs. then again, they coulda been stock too... and i don't know what you had in your taurus... but if you were stock then you musta been racing yer grandma, no offense

madmatt 03-15-2006 04:44 AM

240's really need a turbo, or an SR20det to get them moving well. They are slow pigs, and there is NO way a stock one, would TOUCH an even stock 99-04 GT. Trust me, Ive ridden in both. Now, once he swaps an engine, and had that little turbo 2.0 liter, watch out, because they get quick, VERY FAST. They are light, and that 205 hp turbo engine gets them up really quick.

dannyb785 03-15-2006 06:45 AM

Yeah, i misread his question about them beating a GT...dont know why he'd do that. The logic doesnt makes sense: He knows a 240 cant handle a modified v6, so he asked about a v8...uh...hello? If it cant beat the v6, then obviously it cant beat the v8. As for my taurus, it was stock, and I do believe the kid's car was stock and he was shifting slow, but I remember him revving it high so he was getting on it.

Milos 03-15-2006 11:27 AM

Noooo... it makes perfect sense.

I'm saying that a stock 240SX can right now compete with a stock V6. Now if you took a modified 240SX, a MODIFIED 240SX (not a V6 Mustang, thats where you got confused), a V6 Mustang couldn't keep with it... what I was asking was if you took a MODIFIED 240SX and put it against a 99-04 GT, would the GT have difficulty pullin' against it.

not unless the modification was a turbo. I honestly can't see a 4 banger with CAI, headers, and exhaust, gears and a tune matching our car. It could get close, but the turbo is the difference maker. Of course..throw a S/c on our v8 and there's no competition :punk:

dannyb785 03-15-2006 12:03 PM

The 240's are about 2700 lbs and rated at 160 hp. We weigh 3300 and 260hp

Their lb/hp ratio is 16.875

and my Stock 03 GT's is 12.692

With entire exhaust(headers back) and basic CAI, TB, tune, etc, I can't see any more than 50 hp being added for him. In which case, his ratio would be 12.857, which is close to the GT, but with a good driver, GT still wins. Keep in mind, the 50+ hp is all theoretcial and I have NO clue how well their engine responds to mods.

madmatt 03-15-2006 12:51 PM

Not THAT well, but I imagine it does a little. Id prolly bet on maybe 25-30 more from full intake, exhaust HEADER :D and all that other stuff.

Milos 03-15-2006 01:24 PM

I'm sorry if I came across a little hard on that response danny, I know you're just trying to help me out.. but thanks for the info.:punk:

in response....

i am the proud owner of a 1995 nissan 240sx. i have a reprogrammed chip, header, catback, stage two clutch, short throw shifter, ect, ect. the question asked is would a stock 240 beat you.....it would depend on the distance. In an eigth mile....do your homework.in distance maybe, maybe not. i can reach 185 mph in around 11 seconds. v-6 stock cant do that. i know i have one of them too. if he modifies youll have problems. stock youll eat him up.

zigzaggthefag321 05-26-2007 08:54 PM

185 in 11? what that cost you? :kekekegay:

ok your dumb as hell. I have been a proud 240sx owner and posted in this thread way before i got one the sold it and it was an sr20det with a 70 trim turbo pushing 16pounds of boost and i'd spank 350z 300zxtt and a few z06's and cobras. There is no way a stock non turbo ka24de chipped w/header and catback can do 185 in 11 sec retard. When my hatch had its ka under the hood with it chipped exhaust and header i'd top out about 135 ish. If it can do 185 in 11 sec that means your in lambo ferrari territory if not further. I dought a rb26dett dropped in a gutted s13 can do that moron. Just emagine the et of a car that can do 185 in 11 sec. Somethings wrong here. someones lyeing or giving not enought info. But now i've moved on from the drifting 240 scene because I'd rather spend money on more inportant things in life right now than having the fastest car in town LIKE SCHOOL.

Milos 05-27-2007 11:40 AM

Well seeing as how this was thread was made more than a year ago... the original 240SX that I had questions about ended up wrapped around a tree (driver unharmed.)

So I guess the whole 'slow and easy wins the race' works out.. since I still have my Mustang sitting in a garage.

But thanks for your added imput, hahaah.
