regarding GT's

After getting killed badly by a Saleen and a Camaro SS in a street race, I've decided it's time for Johnny to get V8. (Couldnt get the LX 5.0, nowhere to put it, dont want to pay for storage.) So! I've been looking at some of the older GT's (99-02) And I just wanted some input. I've found a few 99-02s on the internet and the price is pretty good, about 10 g's. But there is another one near my house for around 16. Dark red, white leather interior, 5 speed, and possibly custom exhaust. I dont know how many miles, because the only time i really have the time to go car shopping is when the dealer is closed. Do you think that the one's for 10 have something wrong with them? Or is the one for 16 overpriced?

One other thing. Did the 99 GT have DOHC?

spike_africa 02-15-2005 08:13 AM

only cobras or mach 1's have a 4valve head aka DOHC. all gt's unless motor swapped are 2valves.

I payed $13,000 even for my Black on Black 2000 GT. It had around 42,000mi on it. It had flowmasters on it and that's it. The body was almost flawfless (small ding on rear bumper) and interior was super clean. Best thing to do is go to Kelly Blue Book and enter all the info on the car to get a ballpark figure of what you should pay.

People were getting 2004 GT's for around 19k a few months back... paying over 10 for something used is probably too much... hate to say it... but it is a Ford afterall.

One other thing to consider is going back to a Foxbody if you can find one... I believe they're cheaper to Mod and much lower weight... just a thought.

Go to kbb.com and use the private party value as your goal. You can play around all you want with year, miles and condition.

Near me, a friend and I pot an offer in for $11,500 for a 1999 GT Vert with 28k on it. They wanted 12,900 and it would have sold for 12,200 I am sure. She ended up buying an '03 GT Vert with only 6k on it for $21,000.

1999 - 2001 GT;s can be had all day for under 10k on it with decent miles. I would think a 2003 could be grabbed for 13k - 15k. The dealers here are selling brand new 2004s loaded for about $21k and then there are loyalty discounts and military discounts that bring the price inline with about $19k.

Problem is many private sellers just don't understand this. Don't over-pay but remember, a car is not an investment. Find the one you like for a fair price. buy it and don't look back that way you won't loose any sleep.

I have a 2001 Mustang GT for 11,000 just last year. It was flawless, fully loaded and had exhaust. But I changed it to what i wanted. pay no more than 10,000. Remember, your here to buy a car not the stuff in it. If he is wanting 16,000 than what is in it. Not worth 16k

I just bought mine about 6 months ago. paid 15k out the door for a fully loaded 2002 Gt stick shift. and when i mean fully loaded i mean everything, including the nasty MACH 1000 and all.

02wt5sp 02-16-2005 01:37 AM

yeah I just paid 16K last year for my 02 fully loaded also, and it only had 4k miles on it.

Islander03GT 02-16-2005 08:56 AM

I paid 18k for my 03 with 6000 miles on it last January. The only option it didn't have was the Mach 1000, it also had an aftermarket alarm, slowmasters, and crappily tinted windows.

I think I found something better. 01 Silver (get to keep my name here) GT Premium. 31,000 miles, and its about $12000. The only thing i dont like is the automatic transmission. This thing'll actually lower my insurance by about 95 bucks, so I'm thinking Im gonna go with this one.

"The only thing i dont like is the automatic transmission",

Just my 2 cents, but if you like to race it, get the stick. :icon_thum

SilverSteed03 02-16-2005 12:51 PM

Yeah, I know. The only stickshifts I can find around my area are either too expensive, convertibles and/or the wrong color, or have 70,000 miles on em. As much as I'd love a stickshift, I think this is my best choice.

gtnumber2 02-18-2005 07:53 AM

stick or auto tranny both have there plus and minus. it all depends on what you want to use it for.

Depends on what kind of racing.

Having an auto is nice because it gives you room for your purse!

JK, lots of fast cars out there that are autos. I think an auto can be a great platform for the track and they respond well to a chip/tuner.

TrueBlue02 (Dean) runs in the 12's with his 245 rwhp auto that still has a backseat and AC.

Race or not, get the stick man. I will never go back to an auto in a sports car. It is way to much fun to actually drive the car.
