Help: Rear end overfill??
 

I took my car to a local shop (not to mention them Tire Kingdom on US192 Melbourne, fl) to have a few basic services performed which included an oil change for my rear end.

They did change the oil, with the addidive (at least they charged me for it) but first thing i know after a couple miles of driving, i have oil splattered all over the back of my car.

Turned around, they told me the purge on the top of the axle might have been clogued...and spitted oil when it unclogued...ok...They put some more oil (unmeasured quantity...they "guestimated" it)

Couple more days of driving...same thing...oil everywhere.

What should I do? Are they doing something wrong or simply is there something wrong?

BTW: This is for a 5 speed manual transmission vehicle. Help anyone?

The splattering i'm concerned about but dont worry about the unmeasured amount. The way its done is you pour the oil into the rear end untill it overflows and thats when you know it's full and to put the top on. But i've never experienced the splattering part.

Yeah, I did a little research and it appeared that overflowing with oil is the way it is supposed to be done.
They initially thought that the splattering came purge ontop of the axle. They believed some material built up in it and temperature increased leading to a burst of oil...but it seems to be continuous.
When I first brought in my car, the rear end cover was entirely cover by oil/dirt (you couldn't tell it was a SVO cap), but there wasn't any oil splattering.
I brought the car back in last night, they'll look into it today. Could this be a seal? The splattering probably comes from the driving and the air rushing under the car, so this could simply be a leak, there was just so much oil everywhere that it was difficult to pinpoint it.
I'll post the mecanics diagnostic later today.

could be the gasket is bad and is leaking which would throw fluide al over or your rear tranny seal could be bad which would also throw fluide all over. is the front of your driveshaft covered too our just the back axle housing?

Gotta check for oil on the front of the cap...car is in the shop and I'm out of town...will ask the mechanic when he calls.

I got the car back. Diagnostic: simple overfill. The the store manager had the guts to tell me: "do not put more oil" =>Hey buddy, don't tell me that; tell this to your guys who did it wrong the first time, that had an opportunity to correct it when I brought the car back the second time and messed it up again!
I have driven the car for 3-4 miles only, not enough to detect anything. Time and miles will tell this weekend.
I've learn my lesson though: now i'm staying away from both the dealership and those guys. I spotted a perfomance shop that works on mustangs and muscle cars...that should do the trick in the future!
