weight reduction

how can i reduce weight esily and still keep it 100% user friendly

Well the stuff is there for a reason, you have to decide what you can live without.

You can remove swaybar, spare tire and jack, rear seats, audio equipment, all A/C stuff, and some other stuff.

you can convert to a coil over suspension with all tubular arms and tubular K-member. That'd be good for probably 80-150lbs. You could install a twin turbo V6 and yank the V8. Outside of that, no matter what if you reduce the weight you'll have to comprimise on utility.

Kick the fat bitch out of the car.

well there is one more way to lose some weight in the car, but you can only do it on foxbody mustangs (and i wasn't sure what year your car was). you can remove the rear seat and build a delete kit like i did. saved me 60-70lbs

r3dn3ck 01-27-2006 08:52 AM

what are you talking about? You can do the same thing on SN95's and save about the same amount of weight depending on how far you take it.

I built a twin hatch cover for the rear seat bottom area so I can use one side to mount my amp and the other side to hold tools and paperwork and whatnot. The seat back portion is set up with an aluminum panel that's quick removable.

:icon_bs: there is no way it saved you 60-70 pounds... and like r3dn3ck said you can do it on newer cars also.

Taking out your back seats to put 3,000 pounds of stereo equipment there is not really weight reduction...

r3dn3ck 01-27-2006 12:22 PM

No... but taking out the back seat and all its bracketry and putting in 6lbs of hatch covers and a 3lb amp saved me about 40lbs or so in the back seat area. The braket itself weighed more than the back seat. Removing the back seat belts was worth another 6-8lbs. The back head rest is another few. My sub weighs about 10lbs and is squarely over the rear axle.

I'm slapping a cage in soon and a 9" rear and a 5.4L so I'll be back at just about stock weight but a helluva lot louder inside.

89stang 01-27-2006 07:40 PM

well i didn't mean to p*$$ anyone off i've never seen them on the newer styles. i didn't take in to consideration that i also changed to a raceweight hood as well so that would probably make up the difference of me saving that much weight.
