X pipe question

I want to add an X pipe to my stang, but I currently have the stock exhaust with the exception of Flowmaster mufflers. Would it be alright to add an X pipe and later down the road add the cat back?

Yes you can. You will get more out of a X-pipe than a cat back first.

IMO, you dont really need the catback, so youll be just fine with just the weld in mufflers.

Yup, since you already have welded in mufflers, screw the cat back. No point to it now. Just throw on the X and call it a day.

You could throw on a catback if you want. It is neater and cleaner and you might get a few hp, but I would not waste the money unless you got plenty of it.

Yes the stock 2.25 catback will flow pretty good.

Yeah, cat-backs aren't really worth the money. I would go with a nice Bassani X or a Pro-chamber.

Hmmm im going to disagree, theres no way some welded mufflers are going to SOUND as any good as a catback esp. bassani!! c'mon now  But like MT #1 customer said if they are already welded, no point in a catback now! so go with a bassani x

I just installed my x-pipe on Saturday, very easy install, however.... while messing around with the bolts on the catback, the weld that meets the pipe to the muffler cracked (rusted). The system that is on the car appears to be Flowmaster or Pypes mufflers welded onto the stock pipes, as it was still 2 1/4. Also, the ball joints where the x-pipe meets the catback did not match up very well due to the size difference in pipes.

The car sounds great at idle, but when I get on the gas it makes a horrible rattling sound. After contemplating the best fix for the problem, I decided to order the full 2 1/2 catback system from Pypes. I am sure going to a shop and having them weld the crack would have been very cheap, but I still don't trust the ball joints, as they could be leaking as well. Hopefully I will get something out of the catback, but just getting rid of the rattle will be enough satisfaction.
