Coil-Overs
 

What are the opinions on coil-over setups? Advantages/disadvantages? I know to go tubular with kmember/a-arms/ etc, you have to go coilover. Is it worth it to do all that? I don't have longtubes, and don't plan to have them, so clearance isn't an issue. I know it usually drops weight. In general though, I hear that coilovers ride smoother. Just looking for some input on the whole concept of coilover kits.

Usually the front gets the attention with coilovers, but what about the rear? I am looking to do a suspension upgrade all the way around with some lowering springs, ball joints, shock, struts, the whole nine yards. If I can eliminate coilovers, then the options start to narrow, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are planning on istalling Coil-overs on your daily driver you will regret it. I have coil overs,full front tubular suspension and if i knew the kind of noises my coil overs were gonna make before i istalled them, i would have never bought them in the first place. Don't get me wrong, the car handles extremely well and the weight transfer with my added adjustable struts is awsome, but for a daily driver, i'd pass on them. If you are gonna install them on your weekend track car, go for it and they are worth every penny. My car makes noises on every little bump on the road,everytime you turn the wheel the coil overs squeak, etc, etc...if you are gonna go with a tubular suspension get some spring perches welded on the k-member so you can still run springs. The thing that kills me the most, if when you go through a bump on the road, you feel the hit real hard. Since all the weight is being supported on the strut towers with coil overs, theres really not much shock absortion. And yes the coil overs do give you a much smoother ride, but they are not worth it if you ask me. When you are cruising down the highway, you just feel like your gliding as the ride is very smooth, but blahhhh...




In short: Coil overs blow for daily driven cars...

good enough lol...i will take opinions from others as well, but I think I have heard enough right there. I don't mind roda noise so much, but I dont think I would like all the squeaks and creaks from the suspension all the time. I have a little bit of that now, and it droves me insane. I might run the car at the track every once in a while (have not done so yet so obviously not a top priority in my book), so im not going to let that sway my decision. the car will be daily driven so I guess I have my answer as to the direction I will go in. Im still compiling my list together of what to get, but once I get it together, I will post and get feedback on that. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, like i said if i had known about all these loud noises and squeaks i would not have bought them. Not to say that i didn't know about them, as i had heard comments from others with coil overs and tubular suspension, but i didn't think it would be that bad. The only postive thing i see with coil overs is the the height adjustability and the weight transfer is awsome. That alone itself is great,then with the added weight transfer of my strange 10 wy struts its sweet. Lets put it like this, when i'm on first gear or second gear and i hammer it from about 3 grand, the gap between the fenders and the wheels that arises is just plain sick. It literally feels like the car pulls the wheels.(with the struts set at the 90/10 setting) I took my buddy with out for a ride the other day and when i hammered it from 1st gear, he was holy **** dude, it felt you pulled the wheels! :cool:
