IAC is messed up

Well, at least thats what I think it is. I woke up this morning and came out to leave for work and turned the car on only to find it wont hold an idle and dies if I take my foot off the gas. Wasnt acting up last night, and just did it all of a sudden. Makes sense, that car has about 78000 miles on it and I havent had to replace one yet, so I guess its just my time. Now, I know autozone sells one, but is it worse than the ford one? The ford one is 2x as much as the autozone one, but if it works just as well, you know which Im going for. Damn all these unexpected little pain in the ass issues with my car.

Matt the first thing you should do is get some caburetor cleaner and remove your IAC spray it down real good, let it soak and then dry it off and re-install it. My car did the same thing about and a buddy of mines did the procedure i just explained and got my car running again. Haven't had any problems. Removing the IAC is very easy and cleaning it should be a breeze. If the problems persists, you will need to buy a new one. Most of the time cleaning will take care of the problem. The carbon build up. clogs up the iac so the cleaning should take care of it. :)

If it works you won't need to buy a new one. Hell my buddy cleaned mines about 6 mths ago and i haven't had a single problem. I'd save that money and buy something else. :)

Nah, Im just going to do it now so I dont have to deal with it on another morning. I know it needs to be replaced, so why not.

cool, howd cleanign go? if good, I dont see a point in getting a new one, 4.6 is right, just carbon build up

madmatt 09-26-2005 06:01 PM

Well, all we did was use brake cleaner( didnt have any carb cleaner, woulda made it a lot easier) and let it dry out, then bolted it back up. Im going to get a new one anyway, as mine has 78k miles on it, so itll go soon enough anyway.

If you dunno what the IAC is you'll learn a ton about it eventually.. it can be the source of many many issues on these cars lol

madmatt 09-27-2005 04:03 AM

LOL isnt that the truth. I knew exactly what the problem was this morning as soon as it did it. I was like, damnit, I hate you IAC.
