20 inch wheels / 99-04 Mustangs

I would like to get some info on 20 inch wheels fitting 99-04 Mustangs.

Many people have this size and have lowered Mustangs, yet, some websites sell them and some don't. For example, American Muscle doesn't sell Razor wheels in 20 inch for 99-04 Mustangs but sells them for 06+ Mustangs and they say they don't recommend this size for 99-04 Mustangs, however Cruizin Concepts does sell them in 20 inch for 99-04 Mustangs.

Anyone with actual personal experience of owning 20 inch wheels know if they're any issues with 99-04 Mustangs, like, rubbing issues ect.

I just want to know if they will fit and if so how big of a tire can I get, I was wanting to go with 285, all around.

Like I said I know lots of people have this size on 99-04 Mustangs (Razors included) but I don't know if they did anything special to get them on their Mustang. Basically will they screw on like my 17 inch ready to go?

Any knowledge on the subject would be great. Oh yeah if you have 20 inch wheels post some picks, especially Shelby Razors.

Must See 02-10-2012 06:16 PM

there is a reason why they dont sell many 20 inch rims for the 99-04 models. They look like crap. get some 18's at max 19's

Shadow_Stang 02-10-2012 10:16 PM

Would a 20" wheel with a 285 tire even fit on the front of a new-edge without rubbing like crazy?

Lazerred6 02-10-2012 10:17 PM

20's

18's

The 18's look better I know these are different wheels than you are asking about but the proportions of this car go well with 18's and bad with 20's regardless of design.

as for tire you can fit 285's on the back but they will rub up front

best bet is to do 255's all around and have the option to rotate your tires

If I wanted opinions I would have just looked at the posts that already exist. I obviously know what I think looks good, some 20's I'll admit look ridic, but some like this guy who posted his pic look sick.

I'd just want to know from experienced people (People who actually put 20's on their 99-04 Mustangs) if they're any issues in doing it.

Oh and I have never seen 19's for sale anywhere.

See when I look at those pic's I think the top one looks way better, they fit better, the gap between the wheel arch and the wheel is just so nice looking with the 20's. The 18's don't look horrible, they look, normal, average, what everyone has already, the 20's stand out. I 'm glad you posted the pic so people in this thread can see for themselves. I have 17 inch SVT wheels now and I just think they aren't as noticeable as 20's can be.

Good luck finding anyone who actually does that most people don't.

you won't find anyone on this forum with 20's on a 99-04

That has more to do with the suspension than the wheels

Wheels alone aren't supposed to make a car standout, it's the combined effect of all the exterior mods together. I'm afraid 20's will ruin your vehicle, they're too much for a new-edge. I know you said you weren't looking for oppinions, but I don't want you to spend 800+ bucks and then be disapointed.

But it's your car... so do what you want. I think 18's and good lowering springs will make you happy, and your performace wouldn't be killed, like the 20's would do.

Show us a pic of how your car looks now...

Lazerred6 02-11-2012 08:08 PM

I have to revise what I said....... Most 20's look bad on 99-04's but after finding this I think the Razors may be an exception because of the way the interior of the rim is designed.

I still think you will run into issues with ride quality (and rubbing if you put on to wide a tire)

ignore the stupid body kit the wheels look good

Shadow_Stang 02-11-2012 08:56 PM

the wheels look good, but I think the body kit helps them out a bit. I'd like to see them on a stang with the stock body and side skirts, cus those rocker moldings look like they hang pretty low.

krenogin 02-15-2012 11:09 AM

You don't want 20's. I had em before and traded them a year later. It made my car feel like a truck, 20's are wayy to bulky for the new edges. My handling sucked, my braking sucked, my acceleration sucked, my MPG on the highway improved, but thats the only good thing. Also, they don't really fix the gap like you think, because mine looked the same just a foot higher off the ground. If you seen a lowered car with 18's you would change your mind.

Well what I mean is in general if its the same wheel and both are lowered to the same height the one with 20's will look better because it fits the car shape better, imo.

your still going to lose ride quality and performance as stated above. But hey if you like it go for it. It is your car afterall.

I Drive... 02-15-2012 07:33 PM

Well I spent a lot of time googling and searching forums for 99-04 Mustangs with 20 inch wheels and I have found a ton of New Edge Mustangs similar to the ones in this form (all stock though) with 20 inch wheels and they looked awesome. I have 17's on now, and I think they look too small, I like how the newer Mustangs look with 20's and I think New Edge Mustangs can actually pull if off and when the do it looks so much better than any 18 I have ever seen. I am totally aware some look horrible but I think it's really all in what wheel you choose, like Lazerred6 said no New Edge looked good but then he saw that black Mustang with the Razors and now he knows what I mean, I also think that car looks sick.

I have read this statement on like 10 forums haha when people posted asking the same type question.

I would put 30 inch wheels on my car if I though it looked good, so yeah I know what you mean.

I can see what you mean, but I have seen the pics on say American Muscle.com you just click a wheel then you can see like 10 or 20 people with it on their car. I have actually read posts where guys said they bought 18's then saw 20's and were disappointed they didn't go bigger. That's why this is hard, it's all opinion. So to find a solution I want to see as many pics of 20's on 99-04 as possible to decide, thus my post. If you have pic's of your car when it had 20's you should post em. You bought them at one time so I am sure you understand how I think they would look great.

Is your car lowered with 18's. Even if it is, those wheels you have just look larger to the eye than many other 18's. This is good for you, but I want a deep dish wheel.

Yeah that is the same wheels I want and my car is the same as this guys except I don't have a body kit, I don't like them but this isn't technically a body kit is it, I just thought it was an extended side rocker to hold the side pipes he has installed and the front of the car is just a cobra fog light set up. I saw a mustang like it once and it was sweet looking. But I repeat I DO NOT like body kit's.

What are you basing this off though because it is a subject I see many different opinions on, some say rubbing "could happen" but I have read that people with 20's that are the same as this say no rubbing issues at all occur. Plus Cruizin Concepts sells them in 20's for 99-04 mustangs so I would assume they must fit.

The red stang in this link is the perfect example of why 20's make a 99-04 Mustang look as good as it can look. No substitutes.http://customerpics.americanmuscle.c.../sku/28051.php

krenogin 02-16-2012 08:09 AM

Well they do fit, I did have rubbing issues with 255's while turning. And I bet that car up there is lowered. I'll post one even though I'm embarrassed.

Those look good man, nothin embarrassing there. If I had a silver car with the black accents you got going I would have gone with a black wheel.

I Drive... 02-16-2012 06:18 PM

Can you tell me more about rubbing? Were your wheels up front 20x9 and when it rubbed was it when you turned or just when you really really turned, like turned the wheel as much as you could.

Must See 02-16-2012 06:58 PM

Let him get the 20's he will see the light eventually

krenogin 02-17-2012 09:03 AM

Those wheels were 20x8, and they would rub at close to full lock. It rubbed the paint off of my frame too. But unless u dont lower ur car u will end up with a 4x4 looking mustang. When I changed back to my mach 1's for winter I would sometimes fall getting into my car because it was such a big difference in height. I strongly advise you dont get 20's because it will really make the car all for looks and loose all of the performance. I couldnt hang curves without having sway in the suspension and throwing me around inside the car, it took me forever to stop, and my v6 lost a lot of acceleration, I couldnt imagine going with wider and heavier 20's. But its all your decision man, i had em and the guys on here saved my ass and helped me have one of the best looking mustangs around.

krazypony 02-17-2012 09:54 AM

I think this fella's mind is already made up or he wouldnt continue to keep going on about it... he just wanting someone to fall inline with his decision so he has someone agree with him.

XxAsh03GTxX 02-17-2012 01:04 PM

I don't know what all the fuss is all about. I think 20's look totally hot on on the 00-04 body styles. He needs to do it. It would look totally sexy. I want to see pics of the final product ;)
