bad wheel hub/bearing

what exactly does a bad wheel hub sound like? i have this high pitched squeal coming from the front right wheel well and im not sure what it is. my pads and rotors are new, and i just installed new ball joints and springs so its none of that. its not really at high speeds more at low speeds like 10-20mph and it happens in reverse too. im not sure what else it could be that i havent replaced yet lol, let me know if you have any ideas

Sounds like the hub. Jack the car up on that side till the tire is off the ground. Then try and to move the tire in and out (toward you, and away) if there is wobble then it is for sure the hub. The best description for this sound is at low speed (below 30) is a nice growl. The faster you get it goes away.

its a high squeal sound though, im gonna take off the wheel tomorrow and take a look but idk im not sure what else it could be but the wheel hub

r3dn3ck 10-26-2010 07:59 AM

brakes

krenogin 10-26-2010 09:23 AM

Yeah, has to be brakes.

A wheel bearing would make a nasty growling sound; a very low sound.

probiker427 10-26-2010 10:44 AM

idk i just took it apart again, and took off the brake dust thingy because it was real close to rubbing anyway so i figured why not, i took it around the neighborhood and it didnt make it once so hopefully its gone

rkaz 10-26-2010 02:41 PM

If it was a hub it wouldn't go away till you put a new hub on.

krenogin 10-26-2010 08:11 PM

Your gonna have black on the inside of your wheels without that cover.

probiker427 10-26-2010 08:27 PM

idc there stock wheels, it can be cleaned anyway

You do know it will do it either way? With the cover it's just less.

turn the wheel by hand and see if it does it

probiker427 10-27-2010 07:03 PM

it hasnt done it since i took off the brakes and re assembled. hopefully it was only the brakes.

I don't the wheel bearing makes a loud sound. well jack the car a bit on top. and spin the wheel and check if you can hear the same noise. if you hear the noise better get that checked with the mechanic.

r3dn3ck 12-17-2010 11:20 AM

rosario, you're advertising in your sig and pulling old threads from the dead. 2 months with nothing is = dead. Welcome to the ban stick.

probiker427 12-17-2010 11:36 AM

yeah whats with all these new dudes pulling out old as shit threads? been happening a lot lately.

01FR500 12-17-2010 11:47 AM

Anyways, since the thread is up again... At a track day at Nashville SS half way through the second day I started experiencing a high pitched squeek from the left front. I thought it might be the hub at first but quickly decuced that it was the caliper pin (Mach 1 brakes). After I got the car back home after the event and swapped out for my street pads, I put the caliper pin in a bench press drill and polished it with some fine grit sandpaper (800-2000). Haven't had a problem since. I used to put some anti-squeel on the pin but it accumulates dust and wears off that way. I'm going to start putting anti-sieze or hi-temp grease on it. Maybe some of that info will be helpful for someone in the future.

walleter12 12-25-2010 10:47 PM

Rotate the wheel by your hand and check. if it is sounding the same and if not. it also could the hub. why don't you change the wheels and check. with the mechanic.

I got your ban stick right here!

I'm too fucking stupid to read so r3dn3ck pwned me and then was courteous enough to reply with a why. I should go ahead and drop it now or r3d will swing the ban hammer especially as my one and only post so far has been to stir up shit and piss people off on a 2 year old thread that needed no further detail added.

Damn I regret posting stupid things. I'll do better from now on.

If a thread is open for reply, you will always get someone that will want to try to answer the persons questions in a thread regardless of the rules.
To me, it seems really stupid and petty to ban someone because they answered a question that was asked only a few months prior.... Is the information no longer useful or valid after a few months? Nope! Just seems like a little power trip play to me!! Get over yourselves!
I'm sure that I will get the Ban Stick for expressing my opinion, but I really don't care!

Thanks for reading...

because genius, nobody gives 2 squirts of cold cow piss about what you have to say about it 2 years after the fact.

The dumbass in question was advertising in his sig and so was a clear case of being a spammer.

I don't want you to think I just don't care about your opinion. I really super duper king kamehameha don't care about your opinion on the matter.

Sarcasm towards a moderator or an admin is considered a chief method of getting the ban stick applied. I'll just go ahead and delete your post because you're too self centered to just leave the damn thing alone and had to throw in your 2 cents. Your 2 cents turned out to be Canadian pennies and not worth the metal it took to make them.

The chief reason for douchenozzle's banning was advertising in his sig without authorization. Your chief reason will probably end up being "too self important to read".

r3dn3ck 04-18-2012 07:19 AM

and just for dob... I have locked the thread. Are you happy now? Fucking trolls.
