Exhaust Help!

Just got the 02' GT and first things, first. Exhaust!

Here's the question, I was looking at getting the MAC off road H w/ flowmaster weld-ins (either original 40's or super 44's), what size do I need? The 2.25 or the 2.5?

GTs run 2.5 v6s run 2.25 stock. Go with 2.5

For his car 2.25" is the stock exhaust pipe size. And for the first basic bolt on's that is a good way to go as a catback doesn't do much other then sound for you right now.

I dropped 3 tenths at the track with an o/r H swap. Good mod if you ask me.

Why is that Spikey? Freeing up the exhaust by removing the cats?

A combo of less weight, better flow. For all I know I had a clogged cat which hurt power. I doubt it as my car ran 14.1@99 bone stock so its always been a really quick car. But I ran the weekend before then swapped over and it ran 3 tenths faster no other mods with similar weather. Infact it was slightly hotter the next weekend with the o/r H. My car just really liked the extra flow. Catback made no change at that power level for me. But it sounded really good :)

So go with the 2.25?

What do ya'll think of this h pipe? Would this fit a GT, the auction says it would, but I trust you guys a heck of a lot more!

Yes that will bolt right on to your car.

H-pipe for the win!

Heck yeah! I prefer the sound to the x pipe as well...plus this one is WAY cheaper than MAC. :)

Guys, went a different way with exhaust, went with loud mouth 1 weld ins. Now, they sound good, but I want something a little more muscular (I think thats how you spell it) sounding.

I'm thinking a VRS catted X pipe with MAC long tubes, what do you think?

Danimal1209 09-04-2010 10:19 PM

An H pipe is going to give you that more oldschool muscle car sound. Also, the lm1's are going to be REALLY loud if you go catless, and even louder with headers.

Get an O/R H and have it put on. Then drive it for awhile and see if you like it.
BTW, I have that EXACT H pipe you linked. I had 0 fitment issues and it sounds great.

I think you will like the o/r h pipe better than an x. Longtubes would sound really good but paired with the lm1's the exhaust would be way too loud so you would want to get a different catback.

Check around YouTube for exhaust videos and see which ones you like best and go from there because it is almost impossible to predict how a certain setup will sound.

robertsonz2 09-05-2010 08:12 AM

Well, I really don't want to got catless. I searched a few videos on youtube and found a setup like I was talking about, (VRS CATTED x w/lm 1's and MAC l/t) except the guy was running the lm2 instead of the lm1, it sounded pretty sweet....

Thanks for the input fellas, but I think I found that sound I was looking for!

robertsonz2 09-05-2010 01:54 PM

Actually it was the o/r VRS x pipe, anyways check it out.

The lm2's are a bit nicer than the lm1's. Not as loud but they still sound pretty decent. And I wouldn't look at people with O/R pipes for an idea of how your exhaust will sound if your gonna keep your cats. With cats the exhaust note is much tamer and quieter.

robertsonz2 09-06-2010 01:59 PM

Well that video sort of changed my mind about going catless, which I might. I like the lm1's I've got on it now, but I want it louder. Not "fart cannon" louder, but toned louder.

spike_africa 09-14-2010 05:13 PM

You might just want to get a catted H-pipe as it will still be louder and flow better, but it won't sound like ass like every o/r mid pipe and LM1's or 2's.

BikerSk8rKid 09-19-2010 10:15 PM

I don't like the sound of X pipes, I mean their is good ones out there, but it's whatever. I like the H-Pipes because it gives you a Pure American Muscle sound. I probably wouldn't ever buy an X-Pipe, if the car comes with it, I might keep it on, depending on how I feel about it. My car came with a H-Pipe, no cats, Flow Masters (not sure what series) and 3 1/2 inch at 2 feet long tips.

08mustang_gt 09-19-2010 11:29 PM

I haaaateeeeeee SLP exhaust. Sounds like shit in every way possible in my opinion. Want loud but with good tone? Borla.

Want cheap and to be like every other mustang out there? Magnaflow or Flowmaster.

Want something different? Spintechs. Pretty nasty (good) sounding with an O/R mid pipe, but sound sweet nonetheless.

I like louder exhaust, but I know that comes down to a personal preference.
