01 Mustang 3.8 wont start after replacing battery.
Hey all,
I had to jump start my 01 mustang because the battery was dead after sitting a couple of months. It started and ran fine, so I decided to install a new battery. I removed it and took it to Autozone and got a replacement. However, I did not install it for a couple of days. When I did, it cranked fine but will not fire. I checked all the fuses, fuel pump switch in the trunk, and relays and they are fine. The security Theft light blinks 3 seconds like it is supposed to, and I tried unlocking and locking the door to reactivate it, but no change: cranks fast but no start. Am I missing a step somewhwere, or could there be another problem? Thanks. |
FYI: Something else.
I found my extra key and it started, but ran real rough for a minute then died. Won't start back.

maybe you have contaminated gas (water from condensation)
if it's not full, fill it with fresh gas and maybe some gas treatment or something similar just a guess http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...roductId=33412 |

If needed clean them. When my Mustang runs like **** or something, I unplug the battery and Alternator, then I clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor and Idle Air Control Valve. Put everything back together and plugged in. Then I start it up and let it run for awhile. I have no idea how or why I came up with this routine/idea, but it helps my Mustang. I have no idea why this would matter, but maybe the batters in the remotes need to be replaced? haha |
If it ran for a min and shutdown and just cranks, then its a PATS issue. I would prime the fuel system a few times (turn the key to the ON position and let the pump run, then do it again another 1-2 times) and see if this helps. Next up would be to see if it blew a fuse.

Thanks for all the tips. I let is sit a couple of days and it started right up and runs fine. Go figure. :(
