Hood Stop Removal

How the fook do you remove the hood stops on a 02 GT? Im thinking about getting a CF hood and was told the best place to install the pins is were the hood stops were/are....

I just unscrewed mine, and the plastic retainer pops out with a little prying.

But note, I didn't use he hood bumpstops to put my hood pins in. I made little brackets that placed the pins in a little better position on the bood.

Here is a picture of when I was test fitting everything. Obviously the washer goes under the top nut and there are two screws holding the back of the bracket to the raiator core support, and the plastic headlamp panel had to be notched. The other side is the same.

That bracket looks a little ... uhhhh how do I say this... un-muscular. I assume you still have the stock latch on it as well then. I removed the stock latch when I put the pins on. They're the primary retention system now.

Now then: Thank you 01FR500 for solving my own problem with mounting hood pins. I'm not doing what you did but at least I have a plan now so my pins will clear the top of the hood properly. That's been giving me fits. I'll just make a bridge out of some .120 bar stock.

Guys thinking of hood pins, note that a 4.5" pin set placed where the hood stops are will leave you about 1/4-1/2" short of your goal. If you're going to use that spot then have the bottom nut welded to the top of the core support and then use the top nut as a jamb nut like intended.
