braking issues..
I got into my car yesterday afternoon and noticed when i hit the brake it was going all the way to the floor before any stopping occurred. i drove about another mile or so and the emergency parking brake light came on but i didn''t pull up the e brake. I'm not sure what is wrong. i replaced the pads about two summers ago and I'm not hearing any noises coming from the brakes. any help/input is appreciated.

Probably should start by bleeding the brake lines. If that doesnt help let us know.

my brake fluid looks to be bone dry lol, most likely is that the cause? hopefully a quick fix
|
welp, i added more fluid and the light went off for about 2 minutes and then came back on. it felt like it wanted to have more pressure but just couldnt stop until i went to the floor with the pedal?

you need to bleed the brakes. DO NOT DRIVE IT TILL YOU DO!
When you ran it dry you got air into the whole damned thing. First, bleed the master cylinder. There's a bleeder valve on one side of it. After you bleed the MC, start with the rear passenger and continue in the normal fashion. Don't stop bleeding the system till the brakes are firm like normal. Also check your pads for wear. I'm betting the fluid is low because your pads are worn down and it takes more fluid to push them in farther. After you put new pads in the fluid level will rise. If you filled it up, then you'll get some overflow so be prepared to evac a little from the reservoir prior to changing the pads. It was this exact sort of thing that caused the destruction of my first mustang. Learn from my misfortune. |
I think you have a hole in your brake fluid lines somewhere......?
|

yeah sure is a leak, put my car on ramps and filled with fluid, nothing was coming from the front end so i started looking in the rear and boy was it squirting like no other. the brake line the runs right by my exhaust on the passenger side is shot has a hole in it. anybody know whats its exactly called and where i can get one. I'm going get it on jacks but i couldn't get under there and really see what the line looked like and what i need to get.
|
It's called a brake line, rear right side. Unless I'm missing something.
|
lol yeah i no that but like am or lmr doesnt have them, and ford will charge me alot should i just go to any auto parts store

Quick question, I just want to clarify something before ordering the new brake line. For my car a 1999 V6 coupe, I don't have traction control correct? since it would be right next to my cigarette lighter but theirs only wires there no actual button for it. and i have ABS correct? just wanna be completely sure so I don't get the wrong line.
|
No TC and you have ABS. Bleed the brakes and put in decent fluid, you will thank us.
