Need replacement RKE for 96 Mustang factory anti theft
 

Hi,

I have been dealing with this for several months now. My purse was stolen and of course it contained my remote keyless entry device! Where in the world can you get a replacement. I am tired of getting the run around...can someone please straighten it out for me...This is what I have been told so far:

- Its going to be cheaper to just replace your anti theft system (no I am not blonde!)
- The device will cost you about 80 bucks, if its the right one, and to reprogram it, will be about 100 bucks! (Ford dealership)
- Try the place across town. ( car alarm place)
- No we cant help you. ( car alarm place across town):confused:

There has to be a cheaper way to order a replacement device. Everyone I have spoke with so far acts like this just never happens, like noone has ever lost their RKE before and needed a replacement.

Please help me!

That's really a dealer item, kinda like the transmitters in the keys. They have to be programed to the car.

In my friends 99 mustang GT, he got a remote off of ebay. And he programmed it to his car cause all he had was a key.

I'm not sure exactly HOW he programmed it, but he followed some directions and he got his keyless entry working.

Ok! That is good to hear. I have looked at the replacements on ebay and thought about trying that route as they come with support and instructions on how to reprogram it yourself, which is the main reason I dont want to pay the dealership 100 bucks to do a 5 min job! I may just give it a try, worse case scenario I am out 20 dollars. Thanks.:)

I believe you have to put in the key, hit the keyfob with the door locks, turn it off and then back on and a few random things and then its setup.

doesnt normally take a dealership more than 30min

ebay replacements are perfectly fine, usually used units from wrecked vehicles. they usually come with instructions on how to re-program the remote, with just involves a timed sequence of key turns and button pushing. takes about 5 min. to do it. I've done this multiple times on various vehicles, and have never had an issue.
