just starting mods
 

I am just starting to mod my mustang and I was wondering what I should start with I don't want to race or anything like that just a really good and fast daily driver. What all would yall suggest I start with engine or suspension? and what should I start with on either.

Well suspension mods are always better than engine mods. You can't use the power unless it makes it to the ground.

My first mod would be a set of either 3:73 or 4:10 gears and a tuner. Then I'd get some lowering springs and go from there. Thats the best way to start IMHO and will give you the biggest difference in feel.

Well what kind of mustang do you have? GT? V6?

I would definitely go with springs, shocks/struts first. You get looks and a decent suspension all in one.

Then Gears. 4.10's.

You'll have a 13.6-13.8 second car (If you have a GT). Thats usually enough for most daily drivers.

Then you can add a 125-shot if its still lacking right Steeda? :D

If I had to do it again I would do this for best bang for the buck.

Used mid pipe of choice. Catback of choice (just want this for sound). Nitrous kit. Lower control arms. Springs. tires.

Makes for a fast car that is good daily driver setup.

But that is just me.

Otherwise first mod should be mid pipe as it makes it sound good, and adds a good bit of power.

ok well this is what I got so far I have a V6 02 and I have added a flowmaster turn down on it and projector head lights any other suggestions would be great.

Nitrous. Gears. T-Lok. Tuner.

Suspension rewards you much more for a daily driver than any horsepower mod. I love driving my car so much more now that it handles good. It's actually addictive though, once you've taken some turns fast, you want to do more and more and more. I end up forgetting about making the car faster, and just sinking all my money into suspension.

what would you consider the best shocks and struts for my car and what else would be good for the suspension because I think that is where I want to start.

Bilsteins are the best non-adjustable shock/struts without a doubt. I would recommend changing lower control arms to something nice. Maximum Motorsports makes a great set, but pretty much anything is better than stock, honestly. Full Length subframe connectors are a must. Match it up with a nice set of H&R SuperSport springs and you've got a good car. Find a 96-98 GT front swaybar, and a 94-95 Cobra rear swaybar, put it in with new bushings and endlinks. Then get a panhard bar, new poly or solid steering rack bushings, bumpsteer kit, X2 balljoints.

When you get used to that, get coilover conversion for the Bilsteins, tubular k member, torque arm for the rear, MM adjustable rear swaybar, Eibach or Addco front swaybar, tubular front control arms....etc.

See what I mean about suspension getting addictive..........Once you start, you'll never stop........lol

yea I think it would be more fun to take turns faster than go straight faster so I think I will start on my suspesion in the next couple of years right now I am in college and have no money but I am working to be a radiation protection technician. which means I will be working for duke energy and they pay great. After I start work I will most likely put a good bit into the stang but for now it is just the small stuff. like outside mods. but I will definatly come back to this thread when I start making some money.

I think you should look into Steeda's post too. Don't get me wrong about suspension, but I don't think some power would hurt. But only AFTER you get it lowered, new shocks, and some LCAs. Then look at Gears +TLok or a 75+ shot of spray.

Just wondering because I am not familiar with the lengo but what is a TLok? and LCAs? sorry I am very new to this stuff. but thanks for the information guys and I will probably add some power after I get it on the ground. like yall are saying.

LCA = lower control arms and I'm thinking the Tlok is going to give u a posi track rear end. I'm not 100% on that 1.

Yea thanks everybody that has commented I will probably start in the next year getting little things along the way so any more input is well appricated.

TLok is just a locking diff that will let both wheels spin instead of just one. So no more one wheel burnouts and also better during hard acceleration, well actually its necessary.

how low of times on a 1/4 track do yall think a fully moded V6 can do without nos? and can a V6 handle two superchargers?

I wouldn't waste your time on bolt ons for a V6. Unless your building the motor, or throwing on a power adder, just make it look nice. Throw on a catback for decent sound.

A bolt on V6 will do 15's at best.
