udp installation
So I have the new alternator pulley on, along with the water pump pulley. I cannot get the crankshaft pulley off and I have no ride to the store to get a ducks foot.
I have a pulley puller from autozone but its too large and will not fit. MY question is this: Can I run the car with the original crankshaft pulley and the new alt and water pump pullies? |
Took a closer look and the belt won't go on with the old crankshaft pulley, there isnt enough room between that and the new water pump pullley. I guess I will have to wait until someone comes home. Also, I do not know the torque specs for the stock crankshaft pulley....This sucks.

Look it up in your chiltons book.. Just for this reason is why you should own one if you don't. Heck I own two to make sure I can find at least one :)
Undo it and put the other stuff back on.. Your probably going to need a new belt thats a different size..but same ribs in it. Good luck. |
Take all UDP's off car, insert back into shipping box, ship back to seller, get money back. Done.
UDP's are pointless and a waste of money. |
Well I cant take off the alternator one since I dont have a ride to take it back to napa to have it removed.
Whats happens if i start the car with just the new alternator one on? the belt seems slightly loose. I didnt have to pull the tensioner back to get it over the alternator pulley. edit: Is there any way I can remove the crankshaft pulley without using a pulley puller? I have pretty much every other tool ever made.... |

UDP's are pointless and a waste of money. Remember, it's a sum of parts, not one part as a whole. (But I wouldn't have bought mine brand new, I ran into a set for an unbelievable price locally, so I bought them.......:p) |

I got a whopping 4rwhp, 3rwtq gain out of mine, so they're not completely worthless. And my car came with mild underdrive pulleys on it compared to the GT's stock pulleys.

Well my gf bought them for me for Christmas, so if I don't put them on then we might have problems lol.

Yes, I'm sure tons of people have used UDP's with no problem, but with my luck I'd be the one that has complete failure @ the water pump or alternator. I just think that Ford made those things turn at a certain RPM for a reason therefore I see no reason to disagree with their numbers. |
I sit in traffic here in the NC heat during the summer with the air conditioner on all the time, and noticed no change in my temperature at all. I have also never seen my voltage drop at all.
Not saying it can't happen, but in my car there was no difference in the performance of my accessories. It's actually better for the power steering pump at high rpms also. |

I'd rather have all of my accessories, alternator & water pump operating at peak performance. 3hp isn't worth a potentially underpowered charging system or overheating engine for me. JM2C! :)
I have them and I got them used and its worth it for the cheap cost and easy install. |
If you have the right tools.
I have to go find that ducks foot tool... |
