Bassani Headers / X-Pipe. Oxygen Sensors/Cats?
 

Just got a set of Bassani Mid-Length headers and a Bassani X-pipe. Mid pipe doesn't have cats, but I will be adding a set of high-flowing cats.

Am I going to need to get a set of O2 sensor extenders for either the front or rear sensors? My rear sensors are turned off, so I'm not exactly worried about those, I'll just take them out and stuff the wires somewhere if they need to be extended.

Also, anyone have any preference on Catalytic converters? I'm considering the cheap Pypes cats from AM. Any reason to consider going with the SLP or does it matter?

I have no idea about the O2 sensors, but I can tell you about the cats.

I don't know if it is any different for the 99-04 models, but my SLP cats are MASSIVE. I don't understand why they made them so unnecessarily huge. I have to be extremely careful over bumps, or I will scrape them because they hang so low. This could also have to do with the fact that my long tubes are below the frame rails of my car. I don't know how low the Bassani's hang.. but if they don't hang as low as the SLP LT's do, you could possibly get away with the SLP cats without having to worry.

I have also heard that the SLP cats are prone to breaking up inside when they are hit enough.

I wish I could be of more help. I just wanted to mention the size issue of the SLP's.

I know that there's a difference in flow, and therefore sound. But as far as quality goes I have no idea. I would guess the Pypes would do fine as I've never heard a complaint of them.

The Bassani's shouldn't hang as low, they're mid-lengths so I get the best of both worlds. I'm thinking I'll just go with Pypes, cheaper is better! Plus they're shiny.. lmao

Oh, definitely. It's just that the SLP's are more prone to them when you have the SLP headers, because they hang soooooo damn low underneath the car. It would probably happen with any cat on the SLP LT's, though.

Get the magnaflow highflow cats from summit racing. I don't know shit about the pypes cats to comment.

You don't need to worry about the rears or even plug the connectors in if they are turned off in the tune. However almost every aftermarket pipe makes you need to lengthen the o2 sensor wires. I just do it myself then buy 40 buck extensions.

Im going through the samething SLP X hangs extremely low with stock headers and my cats are basically flat from hitting and scraping shit making my car sound like crap getting them replaced this summer..

You'd have to point it out specifically because all I see from Magnaflow on Summit is stock replacements and anything other than that is through the roof expensive.

The good shit isn't always cheap. I have used the universal 2.5" in/out round ones before with great success.

I went with the Hi-flow Pypes, they have good reviews and all that I need is something that looks like a cat to pass emissions here and to be perfectly honest I really don't care if they really help with emissions at all plus my setup is going to need a little bit of back pressure for the low end torque.

Trust me, I have not gone cheap on anything else when it comes to the exhaust, I've got Bassani Headers & X pipe waiting to be installed and Borla stingers that should ship out on Monday, if anything I've probably got one of the most expensive exhaust setups available. :)

I have Bassani Mids as well. I have the bassani off road midpipe as well as catted. I wonder if I put cats back on if it will effect the tune?

If you dont want cats but need to seem like you have cats just hollow them out. Get a metal rod,pry bar etc and break them apart in the inside. If you hit anything with these cats it will break the material in the inside.

The lowest point on my exhaust is the slp mufflers. Im thinking of putting on a quiet exhaust like dynomax turbo muffler with a resonator instead of catts along with an electric cut out. This way with a flick of a switch I can get really loud but can go WOT without attracting attention when driving on the streets.

Long time no see Venom!! How's the car doin'? What ever happened with that whole house fire deal? I would LOVE to do cutouts, but that's just a lot of extra crap, plus more stuff that could potentially stop working, etc.. Just too much extra to think about.

I think that the added back-pressure from the Hi-Flow cats are going to be just enough to give me some of my low end torque back that my X-pipe has taken away, but not so much that it will really restrict the exhaust & hurt the performance.

I really can't wait to see what the car sounds/feels like with this exhaust system, I think it's going to be pretty awesome myself. :D

The house is better than before as I did some improvements in the garage with a tankless water heater =more room plus added more outlets.

Your going to love the midlength as I had full length and clearance was terrible which is the reason I switched.

I don't think you'll ever give that poor car the paint job that it deserves.. lmao I guess that's part of it's charm though.

Gauges look amazing, I'd like to do some of that stuff too, but I just have way too many other plans and stuff going on right now to even think about any of it.. LOL

Quick question.... I know that I would probably need extenders with the rear O2's, but I won't need them for the front O2's, right? The front sensors are pretty much in the same place aren't they?

The extenders are for the front as its located at a lower point than stock. The rears are in the same location. Thats how I have mine and yours should be the same.

Thanks bud, I went ahead and ordered a set of BBK extenders. Their kit looks really nice compared to Stack or Lethal Performance.

Those look real nice and functional with the heat tubing.

I thought they looked really good too, much better looking than any of the others that I had seen available.. And relatively inexpensive too, I think I paid $37 shipped, not bad if you ask me.

These things look really nice. And as far as my first purchase at ninosport all I can say is that was great stuff. Ordered the part on Wed. morning and it arrived here today, that's really, really good from Houston TX, they processed the order and shipped it same day.
