4R70W Leak

1 Attachment(s)
Ugh, I do not have time for this nor do i wanna deal with it but i guess i have to.

I drove the mustang for probably the first time in 3 weeks, and before that was probably a month. I decided to look over the car and i notice some dripping. So of course i get under the car and my tranny appears to be leaking here. this picture is not my car.

Attachment 16131

Open it up and check the seal? Fuck

Steeda97 01-15-2010 01:37 PM

its cold as shit here too. and i never drive it.

would that cause an issue?

stanger00 01-15-2010 01:45 PM

First off is it transmission fluid thats being left on the ground? transmission fluid looks and smells nothing like motor oil.

For the picture: Thats the dust cover to the torque converter. You may have to turn the motor a few times to get to the converter drain plug. That may be your leak or it may not.

Worst case scenario is your rear main seal is leaking...That would suck because its a PITD to change that out.

Because of where its at I am going to go with rear main seal and not tranny fluid. But I can't tell without knowing what the fluid is.

Why the hell are you not driving the car.

Snow maybe? I know we just got ass-hammered by mother nature with snow....

Steeda97 01-16-2010 09:53 AM

Its not my daily driver. I have another car that i drive, and a company vehicle as well.

Its been snowing, and cold as shit too.

I got underneath and it didn't look like tranny fluid. It looked like oil. FML.

stanger00 01-16-2010 05:27 PM

My main seal has a little leak too...not bad enough to drip on the ground though.

Shit my transmission pan seal seeps, vortech return line seeps oil, main seal seeps oil. I practice what the Air Force taught me...if it doesnt drip more than 3 times in a minute it aint a leak. Unless its fuel than thats unacceptable, safety reasons.

Nice!

You clearly weren't part of the SR-71 crew. The area under the plane could be coated with fuel by the time all pre-flight checks and engine start ups were completed. But, you couldn't light the JP-7 with a flame so it didn't matter.

Pull your transmission dipstick, if your fluid is still red then you know it's oil. But,if it is trans fluid coming from there, then it's most likely the front pump seal.

You clearly dont know what the fuck your talking about...Im in the Air Force of today that has standards.

The Air Force hasnt flown that plane since 1989, hmmm, I wonder why? Oh maybe because it was not WORTH keeping. It was built to break records and thats it...the U2 did a better job, the B1 carried more bombs. Those 2 planes are still flying today on active duty.

take your wisdom and shove it straight up your microscopic dick hole...fucking faggot!

BTW...when I said "seep" I mean I have residual fluid showing on my seals. Those seals only get checked every 3-4 months when the oil gets changed.

Oh my freaking Lord! What an insecure ass. First, they've always had standards you mook. It was a joke. You made a joke first so dont get all defensive when someone else does. Hmmm, I don't wonder why, I know. The politicians cut it because it cost an assload of money and didnt carry any munitions so they didn't understand it.
What the hell does the B1 have to do with anything? If you knew anything about it you would know it almost got canned as well.
Built to break records? Are you serious? Yeah that's why all the tooling was destroyed long before it's service was up so no one else could get a hold of it and build one. That must be why it was used for over twenty years without ever losing a single aircraft to enemy fire, unlike the U2. The F15 broke every record the F4 held. I guess that's the only purpose they built that thing.
And BTW...I don't give a shit what the hell you meant by "seep". I know damn well what it means and I didnt get on here to answer a question from you. Nobody was picking on you or your answer. So calm the fuck down and shove your attitude up your don't ask, don't tell urethra. That's a dick hole in case you didn't know.

Everyone knows that the SR-71 leaked fuel before it took off and that it took a few supercharged BBC to start its engines. We can thank TLC and wikipedia for that info...I didnt look at that stuff for any of this but from what I remember seeing on TV about 10-15 years ago.

I guess I didnt interpret your post as you thought we or I would. I suppose the jokes on me. I just didnt understand why you made a comment about a plane that isnt even being flown anymore. My profile shows that Im 26 so you should know that I was barely in school when that plane was retired.

Please, everyone, general public or whatever you think of yourselves, dont assume I am a pilot, aircraft mechanic or vehicle mechanic. I'm not I work on support equipment and am trained to work this equipment only.
