Dead Battery
 

Hello everyone,
Hopefully ya all are having a good weekend. I am on the other hand had to check the vechiles if it wsa good for this cold weather. But then I wanted to warm up the Mustang because it's been sitting. Come to find out battery is dead.
Ninja ZX-636R: -22 area
Mustang: - 34 area
Durango: - 25 area

Question: How do you jump a dead battery?
Awhile ago at work (before unemployed) we had to jump my SUV, because I left the TV on while my ex slept in the back, without it running. Someone told me that you could mess up the battery by jumping it wrong or doing something. So now I have to ask.

Connect Negative to Negative and then Positive to Positive. They recommend not having the car running to start the other car though on most vehicles.

If I'm doing this to my battery on my car from my SUV. Should I connect the Negative on my SUV before putting it on my car?

That's what I heard, not to run the car because it could kill the other person's battery. this is a dumb question. But I took my battery out, would I have to have the connectors on it from my car or can I charge it just by hooking the cables up? If that made sense.

Oh and how long should I let it charge? After that I'm gonna let it run for awhile then drive it around for a bit. I doubt it's completely dead, because the lights still came on and so did the clock, but I didn't try the radio. Car would try to start kick over once, then I would have to stop for a few seconds. It's been sitting in the cold for a few weeks now without being started. Around 30 degrees I would say.

Your not charging the battery doing this. You are simply jump starting the other car. Put your battery back in and hook up the connections and wait a minute or so then try to start it. They recommend not having the other car running to not blow the alternator on the vehicle you are using to jump start.

That's confusing. So I shouldn't have my Drango running when trying to jump start my Mustang? Sorry, I'm getting confused because my brother is talking out of his ass too.

My brother is saying to have my SUV running, then as soon as my car kicks over/starts to hurry/fast disconnect the cables. This shit is to confusing, because long time ago when I did this to my SUV I blew my boss's battery or something. Then again my SUV is pretty big and he has just a tiny car. haha

Edit: Oh and he's saying if the SUV isn't running that it can kill the battery in my SUV. fml I hate getting confused, but doesn't help I'm dumb. LOL
Oh should I hook up the negative on the SUV first, then to the car, or the car first? No, I've never had to jump start a battery before or have I seen it done. My boss did it while I was working.

its rather simple. Connect the negative to negative and positive to positive. turn on the car that has the non dead battery. Then go to your car and turn it on then it should start. Then disconnect the jumper cables.

Get yourself a "battery tender plus"...this is a low amps trickle charger that you can leave hooked to a car not driven often. It has an automatic shut off when your battery is fully charged. It also has indicator lights that tell you if it's charging, when you are past 85% charge, and when fully charged.

Personally, I like this set up:

Donor Negative to ground on dead car.
Donor Positive to positive on dead car.

Also, I would leave the donor car on, as jump starting does a good job draining the battery (and also helps maintain amps). Once started, let the engine run for a long time to recharge the battery on the dead car.

This is why it's bad to leave a car sit longer than a weak.

Connect negative cable (usually black) to the negative terminal on the battery (may also be black or have a little negative sign around it's base), then connect the positives (which are the red cables and on the battery is usually hidden underneath a red plastic cover).
