p1270? not by me!!

ok so i have a 96 3.8l mustang standard and a 19 year old kid. so he is trying to work and get his high school creds so when he was without a vehicle i was letting him use my car during the day because i drive a work vehicle. well all of a sudden my car ran like shit one day and i read my codes and i got a p1270 and another one that i have always had a p1443. the 1270 is "engine rpm or speed limiter reached". what are the limiters set at if anyone knows.

BTW: HE HAS NOT DRIVEN MY CAR SINCE AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL. i pulled the battery and reset the computer and it is running normal now. i am just curious as to how hard he had to be on it to reach the limits. i am assuming it is a rpm limiter spinning the tires rather than a speed limiter because of the low power of these singleports. he would have to be on the highway to reach the speed limiter i am guessing.

this may make you laugh if you have teens. when i told him about it the next time he asked to use the stang his response was "how do you know it wasn't you?" i think i know how i drive my car when i am in it.

Sorry man but I'm rollin in the floor readn this. I had no clue that could throw an engine light, and how in world have I never had this happen to me? I use to run the dog piss out of every car I could get in. Me and a co-worker use to go to this car lot a race these used cars on our lunch break and give these cars 10 kinds of hell, but never a engine light. Damn I could only imagine what the fuck ur boy has done for this to happen.

LOL - Yeah I dont let the kids near my car, or even have the thought cross there minds to ever drive the car. Thankfully only the oldest of 17yrs almost 18 in Feb is able to drive out of the 2 of them, and her driving record within the first yr of driving hasnt been the greatest and the most I have allowed her to do is back down the car in the driveway when I was mowing grass.

oooh....well that might be why my CEL is on...i hit my govenor a while back at 115mph(before i got my godawful ticket) and now its on. Tommorow or sometime im gunna unplug my battery and etc. How do you reset your computer or does unplugging the battery do that in itself?

sand1303 12-02-2009 06:19 PM

unplug the battery and turn your headlight switch on for a couple of minutes to drain any last bit of stored power. when you hook it back up everything should be reset.

anyone know the limits? you say 115 was yours, i doubt a singleport 6 cyl will hit 115 wander if it is different by years

Deathdiesel 12-02-2009 06:23 PM

Yea mine hits 115 and you can feel the fuel pump cut off and loss of power and there goes your rush feeling lol.

I Dont Know I took my GT to about 155 MPH
so I didnt think that Stangs had Govoners

Im pretty sure that Ford only put limiters on the v6's??

Anyhow, Mines a 96 3.8l and it cuts off at exactly 110mph, so I imagine that yours would do the same. But I remember when I first got my mustang, I was WOT every chance I got. Nowdays I couldnt even tell you how long its been since I hit 110. Dont be too hard on your son, haha. You should be proud of him for craving for some hot, nasty, badass speed.

TUFF 4.6 12-03-2009 07:06 AM

I have an 02 GT, from the factory mine were set at 139 mph and 5800 rpm's.
I really dont know what the v6's are set at. If you have a hand helt tuner you can set these parameters to whatever you like or turn them off.

Deathdiesel 12-03-2009 08:14 AM

Sweet my CEL is off now even after riding here to school, and yea don't be too hard on the kid. He caused you to help fix my problem :D

krazypony 12-03-2009 09:25 AM

No just 2 teenage girls of 13 and 17 and they think they know everything in the world...so I guess I dont need to correct them in anyway or fashion, not like it would do any good.

And I would think that 115mph might be the cut off since I think they only go to 120-140mphr? And thankfully he wasnt injured while doing these crazy speeds. I always say I wish they would raise the drivers age limit up to 18 yrs of age and not 16.
