FML!

as if the rest of my life wasnt circling the toilet the brakes on my honda took a shit.

i cant keep pressure. If i pump it 2-3 times it pressures up quick, but then 5 seconds later my brake pressure is shot.

disc front, drum rear, good pads on front, cant tell rear, ive been hearing aa popping when braking when i first start driving but it goes away. i had assummed it was grime or something because of all the shitt weather.

any recs on what to start replacing first?

Check the shoes on the back and if they are ok, I would look into the master cyl. bypassing internally. Chris, if you pump the brakes up and hold your foot on the pedal, do you feel it slowly go to the floor? If this happens its either a leak or 99% chance its the master cyl. Good Luck

engine off key out, i pump the brakes the first pump goes right to the floor. the 2nd and 3rd pump seem to hold ok, i dont feel them slipping.

same with engine on key in. it seems it will hold pressure as long as i pump the brakes, but it immediatly loses pressure onced i stop.

i am hearing a noise by the rear passanger tire. i see some fluid on the ground but i am petty sure it is just melted snow, when the doughnut gets home ill have her pump the brakes while i check it out.



i checked the fluids, it was low and i topped it off, but that was earlier today and the issue kept happening.

The wheel cyl on that side may have taken a shit. How low was the fluid?

it was just above the LOW mark.

would the wheel cylinder mess up the braking systems ability to maintain pressure?

Yea if its leaking it will. Make sure the shoes have'nt wore out and the pistons in the wheel cyl. will come out too far and leak fluid.

Sounds like that rear one is leaking. You need to pull the drum off and look for fluid all over the inside of it. If its been doing this for awhile it will eat the rear pads up.

ive never replaced shoes, pads yes. i need a special tool to open it up in the honda, so i never replaced them. lol.

at least i know where to start looking.

my parents are out of town, so for the meanwhile i swiped my dads mercedes benz kompressor. its the small one, but still punchy as fuck. its nice to drive something other than the honda for a few days.

You don't need a special tool to do the drums on a Honda. Just needle nose pliers. The pricks there decided that it would be a great idea to design their drums not around the drum brake tool. While the process isn't difficult, it just sucks spending so much time getting the springs w/ needle nose pliers. Also note the orientation of the parts (very important). Also, run to the hardware store to pick up two metric bolts that you can use to push the drum off (if it's really on there). These should be the same size as up front. If you are worried about the philips-headed screws, they aren't out back.

I'm also in the boat that the problem is most likely a wheel cylinder. Those always go fairly quick. Fairly easy to replace to (make sure you have the right socket/bit to remove it).

As you can tell, I hate Honda brakes.

i jacked up the honda and yanked off the drums. the shoes are shot, no biggie. the passsenger side is leaking pretty back. When i step on the brakes it shoots brake fluid out of both sides about 15 feet. lol

i ASSUME the should not be doing that. so new wheel cylinders and brake shoes.

anything else i should keep in mind?

I don't know how those are setup but if they sell a repair kit with springs for the rear replace all of them aswell. I can't tell you how many times I got screwed with those breaking on reinstalation.

Dont push the pedal with the drums off! The pistons will flop or fly out depending on how hard you push the pedal.

I would replace the all the hardware while you are in there and not have to worry about anything for about 60k miles. Like Dustin said get the service kits (aftermarket not OEM) and ride on.
