Radiator fan isnt working...

Ok, so friday night my car starts smoking out the ass, or so I thought it was smoke, turns out it was steam due to the fact that my upper radiator hose burst orpen. Well long story short, I get a replacement that night, slap it on, and turns out that it was what I was hoping it definately wasnt. The thermostat...cheap fix, yeah, but all the parts stores had just closed after we got the hose on. Well, I replaced the thermostat today, filled it up with water crank it up, and let it warm up to about 195 degrees, and my fan wouldnt kick on. Apparently it could be the sensor, or the fan motor (obviously). The car is drivable right now, but not for long distances. Ill only be taking it to work and thats it. I just wanna know if theres anything else that could maybe be wrong with it other than the sensor and the motor. Id really appreciate some feedback.

you can test the fan motor by jumping it to the battery. if it turns it's not the motor. might be a temperature switch or temperature sensor. check your fuses too

Thanks. Ill have to check that out. Im hoping its just a sensor, though. And good thing its starting to get colder in the mornings right now. That oughta help out a little.

had similar prob, fan didnt come on at operating temp, replaced a bunch of junk to no avail, tried jumping the fan and it worked, for the hell of it i replaced the fan and not a problem since. fan was the issue even tho it didnt seem that way

well...I took my car to the shop today, and waited 4 hours for them to tell me that the shit seemed to be running fine, and that the fan was actually kicking on at around 211 degrees, which seems ridiculously high, anyway, dude flushed the system, and filled it up with coolant, got all the "contaminants" out, blah blah blah....basically I paid 232 bucks for the guy to tell me that the needle on my temp gauge just seems to jump around alot more than he would normally like one to do. He also told me that the thermostat that I put in was, he "suspected" a 180 degree thermostat, which I could have sworn it was a 190-195, which would seem to make more sense as to why the fan kicks on at 211.
Anyhow, the car is running, but it still runs a littler hotter than Id like it to. I think Im just going to put in a new 180 degree thermostat in and see if maybe that helps, because the one I replaced was for sure a 180. Hopefully that works. I fucking taking my shit into someone new though to get it fixed. If the guy who used to work on my car was still in business Im sure my shit would have been fixed back to normal..

dude 232 dollars down the drain. i hate shops. theres nothing i can't stand more than paying a shop and getting my car back and it not running like i think it should. i paid almost three hundred dollars one time because the shop told me my car wasn't running because of sensors being out. i had a maf that was still under warranty from autozone that they wanted to charge me to replace along with other sensors. i let them replace the other ones and paid them just to have it running like shit still. they said once i replaced the maf it would be fixed. not so. they kept it overnight and fixed it but what gets me is i paid for something that wasn't needed and what really was needed might not have cost that much but i will never know.

Yeah. Pretty much.

You can toss in colder temp thermostats all day, but if you don't change the fan settings for when they come on/off it won't do much at all.

hm..well..
Everything seemed to be working correctly today...I even let it idle for a while, while I was in the store, and it was maybe running about..165-170 degrres. Which is even better than before it fucked up. Guess it just took it a little bit to respond to the new thermostat or something..
