thoughts on gtech performance meter/pro

i just bought the GTech performance meter and i tried the 1/4 mile. IT recorded a 13.20 @ 116.3 mph. i havent been to the track yet. i was running on stock tires. I recently installed a 70mm t/b and plenum and the only other modification is a borla exhaust. (soon adding mac lt and prochamber). i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this meter and if so how accurate was it? if its accurate im def happy with my time. thanks

I would say that as a whole it might be a nice toy to play with...but has no credibility as far as displaying real world vehicle performance.

It's very inaccurate. My Cobra with the current tune on the nitrous might hit 116 mph in the 1/4 on a cold winter day with a 20 mph tailwind. I'd say you should be running closer to low 14's at around 99-100 ish. Just a ballpark figure not sure what GT's with light bolt on's are doing these days.

Don't you have to input vehicle weight in those things too? If so, maybe you put it in incorrectly as those numbers are waaayyy off.

But still, it's a fun gadget to play with.

yeah i figured...you do have to input the weight....i put my weight as 3300...i figured that was close enough. i mainly bought it to just compare my car with before and after figures, bc even if it is inaccurate as long as its consistent i will be able to see a difference in my times.

They are a fun toy but don't brag about any number something you plug into a cigarette lighter gives you.

You are correct for the most part here. As long as you keep the weight consistent, and the driving technique consistent you should see improvements based on different modifications. I've never used one of these meters though.

I would say that your car dresses out more then 3300 with driver. At least near 3500 or more unless you have significant weight reduction.

The way the G-Tech meter works to estimate horsepower is it has an internal Accelerometer that records a value of the acceleration experienced during a run. Then utilizes a formula to convert it to an elapsed time and MPH or Horsepower. Since F(force) = m(mass)a(acceleration); if the G-Tech sensed a value of "5" for your acceleration (just an ambiguous number), and you input that the weight of the vehicle is 3300 lbs. It performed it's calculation and found that a F value = 16500. If you put in the incorrect weight, and the actual weight of the car is 3800 lbs. You would get a higher value of F = 19000.

Which means that based on what the acceleration that your G-Tech experienced, if you put in a higher weight it would probably show an even lower elapsed time...or record that the vehicle has more HP.

Very weird. Something's fishy about those meters.

i wasnt bragging about the number. i wasnt expecting to run that low.

thanks lightning. ill put 3600 lbs in and see what numbers i recieve.

No problem man it's cool. Have you thought about just taking it to the track to see what it'll do? Then you can run the G-Tech along with the 1/8 or 1/4 mile run and see how accurate it really is. While you're at the track you can get the car weighed in...and then go from there.

Also what mods do you have planned for the future. Any pictures?

yeah i cant wait to get to the track. as i said i only have the borhla exhaust and the t/b and plenum installed now. In my garage i have 4.10 gears, mac lt headers and prochamber pipe that im waiting to get installed. cant wait, i should love the sound. Also on the way from california is a nx nitrous kit. after im done with all that i will have to build up the rear axle and get some nice tires, but that wont be for a while bc im 19 and running out of money. but its a work in progress :)
