Oil Question/Problem

I think part of the reason my car gets hot is because it was low on Oil, the light just came on today. I just got done spending hours putting Royal Purple Syncromax Tranny Fluid in, can't really see a difference, yet. I can say for sure I have a 5.0 Pro Shifter

Question 1: Can I mix Royal Purple 5w-30 and 10w-30?
I can't remember what I used when I did my last oil change. I got 5w-30, but haven't put it in yet.

I checked my oil just a few minutes ago and it's pretty low, like REALLY low and my car was even hot.

Question 2: Since I'm pretty sure my car is leaking oil and/or burning it. The guy at Wal-Mart said that there is some additive that you can put with your oil and it will seel it or something. Is that true and what would you use?

Question 3: Do you think Mobil 1 is better than Royal Purple? This guy was like bragging about my Mobil 1 and trying really hard to get me to use it.

Question 4: Do you think it's time to change my oil? I believe my last Oil Change was around Febuary and winter is around the corner for us. I don't remember how many miles I had on it.

Thank you,
1995 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

the best thing to do is not to mix oils

I checked my oil just a few minutes ago and it's pretty low, like REALLY low and my car was even hot. you should get into the habit of checking your oil while you fill up at the gas station.

Question 2: Since I'm pretty sure my car is leaking oil and/or burning it. The guy at Wal-Mart said that there is some additive that you can put with your oil and it will seel it or something. Is that true and what would you use? if you think you are burning oil maybe you should by higher mileage oil (valvoline with slick 50)

Question 3: Do you think Mobil 1 is better than Royal Purple? why spend the extra money on oil if your car is burning it up. If i were you i would stick to cheaper priced oil until you find the cars problem.

Question 4: Do you think it's time to change my oil? I believe my last Oil Change was around Febuary and winter is around the corner for us. I don't remember how many miles I had on it. If you performed regular oil changes maybe your car wouldnt be burning oil like it is. generally speaking oil should be change every 3 months or 3k miles unless you are running full synthetic which can be run up to 5k miles

what stanger00 said. you got to change your oil every 3k miles, and countinuously check it too. with a high milage car its not unusual that it burns off a little bit of oil, and its ok to top it off in between regular oil changes, but you have to do regular oil changes, lol. 3 months, or 3,000 miles is perfect in between oil changes, unless you use synthetic wich can go a bit longer. i would never take the automotive advice from someone that works at a retail store, i'd rather get it from my mechanic. go get an oil change done, and ask the guys that do it what they would recommend. matter of fact, get an oil change, and just keep checking every time u fill up and see if its still burning or leaking oil.

High RPM's contribute to burning oil as well so if you tach that shit often then check it when your done. be grateful you caught it, apparently one of the previous owners of my car swapped a 8qt pan in and have been running on 6 qts for 5k miles. then drained it and it was runnin on 4.....probably the reason i have a seized up lifter now

You don't need to change your oil every 3k those old days of shitty oil are gone. You can take even the cheapest of dino oils to 6-7,500k miles between changes. Hell I go 7k between changes and I spray alot of nitrous which breaks down the oil faster because of some extra fuel getting past the rings.

1. Don't mix viscosities.
2. Don't use additives. If you're burning oil, find out why and fix it.
3. Both oils are good.
4. 5,000 miles/6 months is a good interval.

I don't know why I'm burning oil or losing it. Before I switched to Royal Purple the other guy was using Mobil 1 10w-40 I believe. I am ruff on my car and pretty much running it hard almost all the time. I finally hit 100k miles and not having any problems. Besides it getting hot, but the temp gage doesn't go over half way. But it's been awhile since I've ran my car really hard/redlining or whatever.

I'm probably just going to change my oil. What should I use? 5w-30 because winter is around the corner?
I'm not to worried about leaking or burning oil, but I do like having the best or something to match it.
What's the point of the lube stuff that seels off the leaks? LOL

I don't know why my oil was low, because racing the hell out of it and letting it sit in the sun for a long time. I haven't been driving it as much since I have a Sport Bike now. I also haven't seen any leaks since I first got the car and the light came on saying low oil.

Edit: What kind of Oil Filter should I get? Because I never did change that on my first oil change or since I got the car. I forgot all about it and I thought I had it when I did the tune up.
K&N oil filters?
How many quarts does my car take?
I'm going to order from AM because of the discount.

You use 5 qts and use a Motorcraft FL-1A filter. Purolator and Wix are also good brands that's don't kill your wallet. And if it does get cold by you, use 5W-30. However, an oil leak is a serious issue and you need to find the cause ASAP. A good place to start is to pull the plugs to see if any one cylinder is burning it more.

Use 5w30, and a Purolator filter is good as well. Nothing wrong with either oil you mentioned.
